I see people trying to trade up all the time but think it's mostly a lost cause. Any real big trade up success stories that blows our socks off?

I've had a lot of success trading up for pins. Traded tmnt for rfm, star wars arcade for demolition man pin for example

At the time at least they were very good trade ups imo

Trading up is tricky. And unless you have something that some just simply cannot live without, then it likely won't happen. HOWEVER, I traded up twice, and it worked out for both of us. I traded a Batman Dark Knight pinball for an Attack From Mars. Then traded my Family Guy pinball for a WMS Indiana Jones pinball. He was an operator and now uses my machines to make money and doesn't have to spend time continuously maintaining the older ones. Win-win.

Trading up can happen, but it's rare.

The people who have trouble doing trades are usually delusional.

The I have two project cabs missing the PCB and a MAME and I am looking to trade for your Foodfight guys...

Ive offered up some quality games in trade a few times and gotten some of the dumbest trade offers.

I traded an operator a Frogger cocktail that I bought for $60 for a Star Wars UR. He said he needed cocktails for his business and the 6100 on the SW was in need of repair and he didn't want to mess with it.

Winner.

End thread.

Trading up has only worked for me with operators as was mentioned earlier. I think our best was an Avengers for an Attack From Mars and Twilight Zone.

I've mainly done trades in the pinball hobby, but I have done some vid trades as well.

I once traded up a B- grade Flintstones for a B+ grade Roadshow, then I went backwards and traded the Roadshow for Demolition Man. My justification was that I only paid $1450 for the Flintstones and got $1900 when I sold the Demo Man. I know the Roadshow was supposedly worth more, but I couldn't even get $2200 for it and I did try to sell it for quite some time, starting at 3000 and dropping it every week or 2 until $2200. I finally gave up and tried the trade route. My vid tradeup was trading my partially restored Midway 280Zzzap for a nice GORF cabaret with a new repro panel.

I also traded a frogger ur for a star wars ur with an amp monitor (blown flyback). op wanted a game he could operate and he did not have the skills to fix star wars.

Traded a crappy $100 MKII in a Crapcom cut corner for a broken Q*Bert.

I had bought the MKII for the monitor when I saw a Q*Bert in the corner of a picture in an ad on CL. I emailed the poster about it, he said it was broken and would trade it for a working newer game. His kids dug the MKII and the rest is history.

Bought a Cruzin World upright for $100, trades that for a After Burner the traded the After Burner and $100 for a near perfect condition NFL Blitz 99. So I'm $200 into that.

Paid $100 for a PlayStation 3 kiosk, traded that for a nice condion NBA Jam. $100 into that.

Picked up a horrible condion space invaders cocktail at a yard sale for $15, sold the monitor, boards and control panels for $100, spent $100 turning it into a 60-1 then traded that into a Carnevil and $100 cash. So I'm +$85 on that deal.

I've traded up a few times!
