So i finally got rid of my fully restored PC-10 today for a Donkey Kong from Smalltownguy2. and it was totally worth it. I like project cabs that are fully original and completely working. None of the wires have been hacked. I prefer to have it in worse condition as i restore to mint every game i get...and its hard to strip a cab that already has potential the way it is. Yes..the cab needs restoration..but the monitor has been capped already..the pcb has been re-worked..and no issue with the power supply...light...or coin mechs. She is a solid cab. I will be giving her my head to toe restore treatment. i will be restoring her red in color. She came with a mint..original no copyright marquee, but the best part of this machine is that it has a completely original TKG3-06 4 board stack with original roms with the ladder cheat...not new reprogrammed roms. I am pretty excited about this as from what i know only the first 500-1000 pcbs had this ladder cheat. Can anyone verify this for me? Anyway....here are a few quick pics...and yes...my camera sucks...

Looks like a good project, though I don't care for the black T-mold. I hope you go with white. Decent cabinet, not much to patch up, if any. Coin door needs work but a good looking machine. The fact that it works is definitely a plus.

LOL...you're friggen NUTS, man. All I can say is THANKS for the opportunity to share in your need to get rid of that Playchoice. Glad I could set you up with a good early DK project.

Just in case you all wanted to know where Erik got this cab, I picked it up in pretty sore shape last October in Forest Lake, MN:

The cab was NAAAAAASTY. I cleaned it up quite a bit, but there's still tons of dust and dirt. And the cab will need some love to be perfect. But Erik's got mad skillz, he'll get it done right. And he's right - electronically, it's already been gone over.

For posterity, I'd like to share what he gave me: a jewel of a PlayChoice cab:

Again Vader, thanks for the trade. I'm flabbergasted you wanted to do this. Thanks for the cab!

I personally wouldn't have traded a Playchoice for a Donkey Kong under any conditions.

Nor would I. But Vader's a project HOUND. He wants to recreate his red DK again, and he should be able to pull it off now. He's got most of the parts he needs.

sometimes I like trading games like this for the fun of the trip/trade/adventure........not to mention sharing the passion of this hobby with fellow gamers.

And why am I nuts!??

You're nuts for a few reasons:

  • You drive insane amounts of miles for games. Of course, living where you do, that's pretty much par for the course, I guess.
  • You traded a near mint game for an unrestored one. Granted, my cab is a conversion and yours will be an early original classic of higher value, but still...new for old :)
  • You LIKE restoring cabinets - sanding, painting, priming, etc that's just crazy talk, right der.
  • You're a regular poster on KLOV - all bets are off. You're certifiable.

But that's cool. You're still one of the friendliest people I've met in this hobby.

when you're done restoring the DK maybe i'll let you trade me for my unrestored PC 10

the coin mechs are unhacked :)

BTW, that thing looks brand new

There's a reason I traded straight up like this. First...I restored and sold the pc-10 awhile back to one of my taekwondo parents. So I already got my money out of this machine. A few months later they said they just didn't play it like they thought they would. I offered to trade it back for private lessons and black belt testing for their daughter....which doesn't cost me anything but a few hours of my time. So basically...I got this machine back for "free". So for me to trade this machine...which I never had any desire to keep...for a machine that I very much enjoy...was a good deal in my mind. Plus it is fully working. I enjoy the restore process because I like to restore the machines to mint. Since I am a perfectionist...I like to do this myself....my way. That way if anything is messed up..its my fault..and I can live with that. I hope Brad enjoys the machine and plays the hell out of it...because I never would have. And PS...I will be restoring a Ms Pacman which I will also be wanting to trade...so keep ur eyes open when that time comes!

I drove 15 hours round trip to pick up a games, why? It was an adventure and I had a great time..
Life is not always about how much it is worth. It about how much fun you can have with it.l

What Erik has also not told you is that he knows that I'm his Minneapolis arcade bitch too. I help him out quite a bit from where I am, to make life easier for him. A trade like this to me was no doubt easier for him to do with me rather than others, since we have a history of assisting each other.

Karma, baby.

Is the cab itself a TKG-3? Those early blue ones are rarer than the red ones.

Hard to say. I believe it is, but it had been converted at least 3 times before I got it. There was no tag on it when I got it, but the holes were there. I added a TKG4 tag to it when I gave it to Erik, but based on some subtle differences (like the way the woodworking was done on the cab for one) I do believe this was an early blue. But there's really no way to tell.
