Tracking Down A Game But I Don't Know What It's Called

I'm wondering if someone can help me.

I'm trying to track down a game to add to my collection, the main problem is that I don't *actually* know the name of the game. I only played it once for about 3 minutes at a party. I was still a young kid so I'm guessing it was sometime between 1992-1995.

It is a 2D fighter (the years would suggest it was trying to steal some of SF2's hype, it certainly played like it)

What I remember as being unique, however, is that the levels had 'traps' or environmental hazards to some degree. The stage I played had a wooden floor with circular saw blades (like those from a lumber mill) moving across the floor.

I'm sorry I can't remember any more but I really hope someone can help me, there's a spot next to SF2 waiting for it.

Many thanks in advance.

That sounds like one of the Samurai showdown games, could be worng though. Does the picture zoom in and out during a match?

Erm... I think it might have. I had Samurai Showdown 2 on my PC about 10 years ago so I don't think it was that one (unless there were differences during porting) I thought it might have been Fatal Fury but can't find evidence to back it up, however it does zoom in and out so Samurai Showdown could be a favourite.

The art style certainly looks like what I remember.

I'll have to have a good scout over youtube.

Sounds like the World Heroes series. When you played you could select regular, or deathmatch (?). Under deathmatch there was an environmental hazard in each level. I remember the buzz saw level, but couldn't find a pic of it.

Just had a look on youtube, certainly has the right feel to it. Seems a bit slow though, but I'm sure to an awestruck 8 year old it was faster.

There were four versions of the game
World Heroes, World Heroes 2, World Heroes 2 Jet, and World Heroes Perfect.

Maybe you played one of the later ones? I'm mostly familiar with the first one as that's what was at the Plaid Pantry back in the day... I've played 2 a bit, but haven't tried either of the later ones.

From what I've seen on KLOV, it's got to be 1, 2 or jet. Perfect is too recent. But currently I think the big money is on 2. Thanks a lot for your help guys.

Now all I've got to track one down... I've not got a NeoGeo cabinet...

Those carts I think are really common and cheap .

You star! It's World Heroes 2, just seen a video of it - as soon as the 'How To Play' screen popped up I recognised one of the characters, first level - boom! Buzzsaws in the floor. Thanks so much for this!

It you have a Horizontal JAMMA cabinet, the 1 slots Neo*Geo PCBs are jamma compatible (you may have to wire up a 4th button for some games, but World Heroes only uses 3 buttons). The 2,3,4 & 6 slots PCBs have a few differences with how the sounds is wired if I remember correctly.

Yep, 1 and 2 can usually be had for $25 or less (pre-shipping).

Glad you found it. I owned 2 briefly but never got too into it, as some of the moves/controls changed from WH1 to WH2 and I never adapted.
