Anyone no what the standard pinout is for a track ball harness? Trying to make a couple for GT and WCB.

Thanks,
Robert

Thanks. Saw that when I was searching earlier. Not sure how to read that little table in the middle, though.

Assuming you have a regular trackball already and need to wire up something between the board/harness and the trackball connector, the wires from the trackball are:

Red - +5 vdc
Black - Ground
Yellow - Y-DIR
Green - Y-CLK
Brown - X-DIR
Blue - X-CLK

I definitely appreciate the info. I just need to know what pin what color goes into on the PCB connector side of a GT board.

This is such a popular series I thought the info would be out there, but I can't find it. Thanks again.

Not to highjack his thread, but if up is switched with down, and left with right. Is it kosher to swap wires for the CLK and DIRs on the connectors?

You could. Or you could just take out the four screws holding it in place and turn the trackball 180-degrees...

Well, I didn't realize that was what you needed. There is a connector on the board for the Trackball.

Check out the bottom of page 53 of this manual:

http://it-offsite.whsites.net/itsgames/manuals/Golden_Tee_Fore_1004.pdf

I checked that out and wired it like it says

pins
1 red
2 yellow
3 green
4 purple
5 blue
6 black

It doesn't work right. Directions work intermittently. I know the new trackball I got today works. Its all stuttery if that makes sense. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

Do you have a IT trackball harness in the shop to compare?

Thanks,
Robert

All newer trackballs are wired the same with the same colors. I do have a GT'05 in the shop, but I won't be there until Monday.

Check the solder joints on the little boards inside the trackball. You might need to clean the optics, too...

Genius! Actually the way the control panel plywood is routed out the trackball unit only fits in one way. I think harnesses have CLK and DIR reversed. I just read Bob's page and he mentions the wire swap. I am replacing a trackball unit on an Atari Rampart 1990.

Thanks for the help. This is turning into a nice informative Trackball thread.

I'd appreciate that. I'm getting the same result w/ 2 trackballs.

Anyone able to confirm how to wire one of these for a GT game. Just need to know what pin on the TB side corresponds to what pin on the gameboard side. Also, figured I'd say that the cab I'm testing this in is a MK3 so -5 is being supplied through the jamma. The GT games don't require it, would it be an issue causing stuttering on the trackball?

I haven't had a chance to check the machine at the shop, but it's going to be the same as what's in that manual I posted above. All trackballs have the wire colors in the same place in it's connector, and that then goes to the GT board like is illustrated on page 53 of the manual.

Still, I can try to get a pic this week.

BUT - I can say that I've seen trackball issued with GT's have nothing to do with the wiring. i have rebuilt trackballs that worked fine in some games, but stuttered or always pulled left in others. Replacing it with brand new fixed it, but I could find nothing wrong with the original...

Thanks. I was pretty darn sure of my wiring, but this issue has me second guessing. Didn't want to have to buy a brand new TB. Thanks.

So - just to be clear, do you want the wire colors and pinout as they come out of the trackball, or as they go onto the board?
