Track & Field Pick-up and Question Regarding it....

Yesterday I brought home a Track & Field. It has proven to be rather elusive for me and I was glad to find one local. It is a game that my older brother and I played the hell out of as we lads. It needs a little work here and there but looks pretty good for the most part. I had purchased a CPO for it years ago knowing that someday I would have one. I also need to order the bezel from Prok.

My question is about the coin door. I thought all Track & Fields came with the old style coin doors and not the over-under style. This cab also appears to have black vinyl under the blue paint. I don't think that this game was converted by an operator. It looks too original as far as wear and tear on the game. It also has the Track & Field serial number tags stapled inside. Did the factory convert some Hyper Sport cabs to Track & Field? There is blue overspray all over the inside of the cab that is flaking off all over the place since it did not adhere to the vinyl very well.

Since it was raining and I didn't feel like dealing with a tarp, I couldn't take the truck. This was the first time hauling a game in the wife's Honda Odyssey. The boys got to go along on the trip too.

The blue paint flaking is pretty normal. Mine had that when I got it. I don't think it is vinyl under the paint, though. I think it is a laminated wood (I'm not sure how they got wood laminate with one side white for the sideart and one side black for around the monitor).

Also, it seems the coin doors came both ways. I have seen both many times.

coin door

Most of the T&F I have seen came with the Centurie single door. I have seen a couple of pics of the over under style. Never sen one in person. I have seen a couple of Hypersports with that coin door. I think the cabs are the same otherwise.

Plenty of T&F cabinets had that coindoor. It is not unusual nor is it a conversion. I think the chances are that they simply did a second run of T&F and used a new front with a new coin door on the second run. Who knows why. They then probably used the same template as for their Hypersports cabs. That's my guess; I could be wrong.

Centuri over/under coin doors were typically used in Hypersports cabs not T&F. Most you see with this coin door were a conversion doen by someone. But after looking at this cab I'm honestly starting to wonder if this was a factory conversion?
The artwork is certainly old as hell and the inside of the cabinet has the blue over spray. But then I look at the paint on the front and it appears to be fresher looking than the rest of the cab. Most of the time you'll find almost like a ticket stapeled in the inside of the cabinet. That "ticket" will either say T&F or HS. Either way congrats what a fun game.

As I said before, plenty of T&F cabs had that coin door. It is not a conversion. Here are several that I found a just a few minutes of googling.

Seriously, these types are all over the place. It is not an oddity or conversion....you can even see the original factory stapled ticket in one of the OP's pictures.

I am betting that this is probably the case. I am pretty damn sure that everything in this cabinet is original to day it came off of the factory floor. And after seeing several others you posted with this coin door....

Fun game, as shown it needs a little work. The seller couldn't find the keys so I need to drill out the locks....fun. Then I can get the control panel off and put the new overlay on.

I can't remember what the inside looks like...are you sure you have to drill out the locks? With no back door or bezel, you might be able to reach through and just undo the locks from behind or, maybe, you can unlatch the CP and go at it from above.

No keys - no entry. The plexi glass is too long to slide up and out and is clamped in place by a bar (l-bracket) that slides over two bolts and wing nutted.

A second run would make sense - after all some of the pictures you posted shows the inside blue chipped off showing black - which some HS cabinets had the inside of the cabinet as well as the front solid black.
