I have a TnF/Hyper Sports on the bench I am trying to get working again. It boots to graphic garbage but will coin up and play in the background from the sounds I can hear which are ok.
I have replaced all of the Rom,Ram and Customs IC sockets with new dual swipes and with re-flow of the 2 daughter customs. It has a new ribbon cable as well and PSU voltages are set to 5.2V
I have tried the test roms and I get a loud horn like sound runs a sec for 3 times then stops and still have similar garbage on screen.
I have been looking at viable solutions but all my checks come back ok for any I found on the interwebs LOL
I hope someone here can point me in the right direction.

Just to reiterate from the prior thread - are you able to revert back to normal Hypersports and does it work 100%?

The only thing I have done to this board set is burn new roms from exactly what it originally came with there are no kits or mods on this board set. Even with the original rom sets I get the same screen.
Is what your asking a dip switch setting I need to make because I have not touched those except to reset the memory after replacing a battery.

Two things that have to be verified:

1. The Hypersports board is an original and not a bootleg.

2. The Hypersports board has to be working 100% without the Rearranged kit installed.

Can these two questions be answered with a simple "yes?"

Thanks,
Jason

If the board in it's OEM format is tossing up the same garbage, don't waste your time with the Rearranged kit until the problem is resolved.

Thanks,
Jason

There is no such thing as a T&F/Hypersports board. You either have one or the other. In order to have the "Rearranged" kit where you can play both, you MUST have an original, 100% working Hypersports boardset.

That is gx361
Hyper Olympic pcb
That is UK version of TnF

This is NOT hyper sports

This bosrd will not run rearranged kit.

This board can run TnF or HO romset

Someone has worked on this board also. That is not original battery
EDIT. I see above you said you replaced battery.

Thank you for the clarification because there is so much chatter about either one of these board sets and not including all the bootlegs out there.. I currently have the TnF Rom sets installed just like it originally came with. I have not tried the HO set.. Is that set included in the Mame archives?

There are multiple TnF sets. Board may not like the set you chose. My memory is foggy but I believe there is one set that runs on a board with no customs or less customs. The other set will run on yours with customs.

That is a very strong guess if I remember correctly.

HO is in mame for sure. Everything is the same except for the splash screen. I would stick with TnF if in NA and HO if in UK.

I have an obscene number of 27512 EPROMs NoS so I have a romset that I made to run off 27512. DM me if you want it and I can zip and send over.

@mattosborn do you agree there is a TnF that runs with no customs or is that a pipe dream I have left up in the databanks from the last time files / memory got corrupted when I tried to walk and chew gum at the same time.?!

I believe they all either have the custom chips or daughtercards that replicate the custom functionality. Some Konami bootlegs have the custom logic included in the main PCB layout (so there are no daughtercards). I've never owned a T&F bootleg like that, but they likely exist.

OG, no customs, found it now that I am at computer and not on my phone.

Just need to confirm they run different versions of mame roms

Also, I recommend marking all customs with correct part number as they are often obfuscated and once you pull them, you may have a hell of a time figuring out which is which.

You can use the chart that @mattosborn made, I have it printed out and laminated for my repairs and use it all the time.

Attached pic of a gyruss I just got in for reference.

Which romset did you use to burn fresh set?
Ill have to double check but I think I just grabbed the TnF only not the centuri one. When I did I checked the CRC against one of the original roms and it was a match, when viewing the pic I posted the board has customs including the Konami 1 CPU.
Either way I have the originals installed or the newly burned installed I still get the same result. I have another Konami1 CPU in my shop somewhere but just from a logic probe stand point the CPU is doing fine and since it will coin up and sound like it plays I know the cpu is at least 99% functional. All of the Ram has been replaced and signals are pulsing on all pins.

So far most of my trouble shooting has been done with the logic probe. My gut is telling me it is going to be one of the customs that is failing or failed.
Update to this I used the trackfldc set which matched the originals.

I really need to get this off my bench so I can focus on getting some work done on replicating and reproducing these customs since they have become a faded memory.

Ok, I have got this board set almost complete after digging through everything and re inspecting the board I found a few issues after replacing the sockets with the dual swipe type. First was a micro sized piece of solder that shorted pins 20 and 21 on the cpu placing the CPU in a halt state after removing that I got some life back in the system, but still having screen issues so to make this short it was a 74ls08 located at 13D all outputs were low. Once that was replaced I got a full back ground with sound and able to coin up and sounds like its in play but absolutely no sprites.
To get to the issue at hand I have already done a SA on the 502 custom and all the signals look ok at least to me without knowing what they should be normally I am not sure so I designed and built my own K502 but I got the same signals and result with no sprites. I am at a loss on this one and ready to shelf it for now unless someone has any other checks I need to look at. Thanks to Matt for the images of the PCBs.
