I'm working on a Track & Field PCB, and looking for some directional pointers.

The game plays correctly. Characters all look correct, except they are the wrong colors.

Are there color specific proms like on a pacman board? or is this a rom issue?

Thanks for any advice.

It seems like only some of the colors are inverted.
Black is yellow,
tan is blue
but brown is still brown.

Picture below is the correct colors, for comparison

Man, I'm really spinning my wheels with this board. It looks like I have a Track & Field NZ (bootleg?)

My GQ-4X really doesn't like these Mitsubishi M5L2764 roms. If I read them enough times, I can eventually get roms 6 through 12 to verify with the correct Checksum. I'm concluding that those chips are good. The same CRC code is used for
  • T&F
  • T&F Centuri
  • T&FNewZealand
I have been unable to verify any of Roms 1-5 no matter how many times I try them.

The labels on the chips all say "361" followed by the same identifiers I typically see on a T&F board: I01, I02, 003, I04, I05.

I have 2 blank 2764s I can use to program and troubleshoot. I've attempted to use them to swap out 1 or 2 of those first 5 roms that I can't verify. I've tried all of the 3 T&F versions, but no matter which version I burn and swap out it will not boot with anything other than the original chips.

other items of note, Shoestrings Test Rom 1.2 also will not boot.
I did verify that my 2764s work just fine by using them in place of roms 10-12

Just to remind, the game boots and plays fine with the original roms, but the colors of the sprites are jacked up. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be grateful.

It turns out the Roms in this board need to be plugged in out of sequential order. The correct order for the ROMS is 8,9,6,7. If you plug them in 6,7,8,9 it results in the colors being screwed up, like I have shown in the photos above.

I've since learned that this board is an original Konami board with unencrypted Roms. It uses a 6809E CPU instead of the typical Konami-1 CPU and none of the other custom chips are required either.
