Track Ball Issues

Just picked up a Blades of Steel cabinet today. It is in the original Konami cabinet and besides someone tinkering around with adding a computer exhaust fan to the back door (or is that supposed to be there?) it looks to be all original. I had to give all the buttons and the track balls a good scrub down right off the bat as they have met with soda and other funk in their past. The issue I am having now is that the track ball for either player will work easily for entering initials at the beginning of the game, but then once actual play starts you can roll like crazy and the player will barely move. This is the first track ball based game I have ever dealt with (besides the Ultimate Arcade 2, which was pristine when I got it) so I am definatley in novice mode here. Also, don't know if this could be related, but there is a loose set of wires attached to the three prong connector right above where the track balls connect to the board (Same side of the board, white connector). Not sure where they go or if they need to be re-connected somewhere.
Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.

Bumping an old thread here for experiencing the same problem on a Blades of Steel...the left to right seems to be ridiculously slow.
