whats the correct way to hook up and test a donkey kong monitor with a tpg? not sure of the pins. looks like 1-3 is GRB( not RGB) and pin 6 is sync. also what sync? hor neg or pos? or vert. neg or pos? im assuming horz neg . also, set dip 4 to invert signal?

thanks

Pin 6 is sync, but the connector on the EZ-20 is backwards from what you would expect. So pin 1 is closest to the tube.

Sync is -composite sync, so just connect the -H output of the TPG.

And Dip 4 on will invert the signal. The TPG title screen will still look funky, but all the patterns will look correct.

The picture will be shifted vertically a bit compared to an actual Nintendo board.

Looks like strong bleed between colors. There is no contrast pot on the EZ20, so you'll need to adjust the screen knob on the flyback, and the drive pots on the neckboard for red & blue (there is no green pot). If adjusting the drive pots didn't seem to help with the bleed, then the screen knob on the flyback is probably a bit high (or it could be a combination of both).

How does the monitor look with your DK board? I ask because usually with Nintendo boards vs. TPG, the video signal voltage is higher for the actual game boards. So if the monitor was dialed in for DK, the TPG video will appear darker. In this case, the TPG output is really bright, which makes me think the flyback/rgb drive settings are too high.

Buffett might chime in if the B+ should also be checked. He is our resident EZ-20 enthusiast who uses the monitor in a lot of non-Nintendo games.

first set the B+ to 108vdc and then set you sub brightness and then after those you can white balance the monitor. it looks like the sub brightness hasn't been touched.

it was the sub brightness. its funny how it affects the image, if its not right, and you turn up the flyback, the image doesnt just get brighter with raster lines, it gets totally scrambled. learn something new everyday
thanks
