anyone ever had t molding be more of a pain in the ass than a cpo that breaks apart in 200 pieces?

I have a pac cab, that I am restoring with some black t molding that is rock hard and breaks apart. Can't get a rhythm pulling it out.

damn

it's prolly glued in. you can try a heat gun to make it a little more pliable but i'm not sure if it will help.

i don't know anything about cpo's exploding into pieces. :D

It doesn't help that at certain points in the top and bottom, there are small nails/staples that go through it to hold it into place. I usually get a small flat head and stick it in the trough after I've got some out. Then I pry it up and out slowly as I go from top to bottom. Eventually you can get it all out....

I ran across a Super Pac that someone glued the t-molding into. It was like two hours of and on because I was trying not to damage the edge. What a bitch.

The hot air gun is a good way to remove it. I use a makita heat gun with an adjustable setting. That way I can just dial it so that t molding will soften without melting it or burn the surround areas.

yeah I tried prying it from the sides, hoping to not screw up the wood portion of the cabinet obviously.

it just cracks or breaks. I have had some luck, but now I have like a 4" section with none of the 3/4" of it, just hte center stuck in the wood, lol.

I'll figure it out, thanks for the tips.

Use a router with a slot cutter for tmolding. It will be be messy as you will be shredding up the tmolding and whacking a few small staples, but WAY quicker than trying to pry it out for hours. I've done this lots of times :) works great!
