I finally got wifey to "agree" on a Wii from Santa this Christmas. It comes with the regular Wii Sports and the Resort Sports, which are perfect for my 4 and 6 year old. But what other games are decent right off the bat?

On my list, I only have two others: New Super Mario and Lego Star Wars Saga. My 6 year old and I have played both of these and he really enjoys them. What others are good choices (for the kids and me!)??

Mario Galaxy and Goldeneye :)

punch out!!!!!

mario super sluggers may not be the most realistic baseball game ever, but it may be the most fun.

warioware smooth moves it good fun for everyone.

most of the games are family friendly, just read reviews to avoid the shovelware.

Mario Galaxy 2 is one of the best games I've played in the current generation of games, by far. New Super Mario Brothers Wii is a good game too, if you like your Mario a bit more side-scrolly.

Ah yes- Punch-Out would be a blast!! My wife pointed out a Ben 10 game since my sons are huge fans of Ben 10, but I'm sure it's shovelware...

Mario Galaxy is a great game and ANY of the Lego games...SW, Indy, Batman any of them.
My 8 yr old loves tham all and it's alot of fun playing it with him.

SMG isn't a 2 player game...realy but the Lego games are.

Check out the Wiiware Bit Trip series if you want some Atari 2600 nostalgia with great game play.

For everyone:

World of Goo (downloadable WiiWare) - AWESOME, physics-y game where you construct things out of "goo balls" trying to get from point a to point b. The Wii version is best because you can have up to 4 people playing at the same time (try a demo on Steam first, if you like).

Mario Kart Wii - great for groups of people, very low barrier to entry! You don't need to get any wheel accessories, as you can just hold the remote like it's a wheel.

Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 - Similar mechanics to Mario 64, but polished to an incredible shine.

Rock Band 1/2/3/Beatles are always fun, and again, easy to pick-up.

New Super Mario Bros. - classic side-scrolling mario, 4-player madness!

A bit more sophisticated:

Metroid Prime Trilogy - awesome first person Metroid games. Excellent atmosphere, and the pointing/aiming mechanic really works.

Resident Evil IV (Wii Edition) - scary, but the pointing mechanic makes the game better than the original.

Super Smash Bros. Melee - my high school students love this game. Not sure how well it would be received by younger kids, though.

Gourmet:

Cave Story (downloadable WiiWare) - Classic Super Metroid-style game with a rather intriguing plot.

Here are my favorites that I own (in no particular order):

- Super Mario Galaxy
- Super Mario Galaxy 2
- Legend of Zelda: Twlight Princess
- Resident Evil 4
- Zack and Wiki (Very underrated point and click game, excellent game for kids to learn problem solving techniques IMO)
- New Super Mario Brothers Wii

All the games listed above are great choices.I'll add A Boy and His Blob to the list. It's a fun, tailor made kids game.

Mario Kart is essential.
Zelda Twighlight Princess
Godfather is awesome on the Wii but not for kids.
Super Mario Galaxi
Super Mario Wii (sidescroller)
Tiger Woods Golf (used to be kid safe but now maybe not?)
Rock Band is really good one (I have the PS3)
Your kids might like Mario Party
Wario Ware is another one kids seem to like
I concur on Resident Evil 4 as well.

NPC Pikmin if you have never layed Pikmin before! It's Lemmings and Warcraft where your troops are flowers.

But doesn't this belong in the console thread. Good topic however...

Beatles Rock Band!
Lego Rock Band
Lego series of games
Wii Sports, and Sports Resort

Santa is bringing my son a copy of the new Tron Legacy game for his Wii

Sounds cool!!! Do you think a 6 year old is too young to play it?

Yes, console thread topic, but I wanted more feedback from those people who only click on the "New Posts" button (like me ;))

If you haven't already picked one up, there is a bundle coming out with the New Super Mario Bros Wii. It's a limited edition red Wii.
