If there is one area that always gives me fits in a restore it's the top of a cabinet.

I will sand smooth, prime, sand, and try to paint, but no matter what my paint comes out splotchy or has striping.

It's really weird too, cause anything else I paint like the back panels always come out great, zero splotches. Zero striping.

Could it be cause I'm painting it with the can pointed downward? Does that effect how spray paint comes out? Maybe lay the game down to paint it instead?

Any ideas?

It's the angle at which you're spraying and plus the overspray. Tip the cabinet in order to paint the top in a vertical fashion and it will have the same finish as the rest.
