Based on the provided information from both sites, I find it quite interesting to see the variances between the two sites. I think it's truly too bad that whom ever moderates IPDB reviews allows reviews that simply state "not my cup of tea" or "It's rubbish and a waste if money". After all it's the review system that changes the top 10 right? Because they were too lazy to use the system correctly they lumped scored a machine ... which what's the point you've already taken the time to create an account, login and start a review ... geez man. I also feel IPDB drives the prices - and it appears to me that people actually post negatives in efforts to drive the price down?! Anyone else see that?

Sorry for the long post ;)

Those are just based on search results. The IPDB review system while flawed a bit is a better gauge than Mr pinballs most seached list. And you can sort through the reviews of a game and kick out the crap ones.

I had to edit the original post as I mismarked a few and I also missed a few ;)
I can't say either site holds any real value for me personally - but the difference betweeen the two is what I found interesting.

Any user based review site is going to be hard to use as a judge. Even more difficult on sites ranked on number of searches. The thing is some machines were produced in numbers two, three, sometimes 4 fold more then other machines. This has a huge impact on the ratings in both formats. More machines produced means more people have played the machine, so they are capable of reviewing it, and more people are looking for parts for those higher quantity machines.

Still, the list(s) do tend to show a trend towards really good machines. Sure, I absolutely dont understand the draw to TZ or TAF, but the general public rates those machines in high regard, which means for a new comer, its probably worth checking them out. Especially since such a high number of people have reviewed the machines, and left positive feedback.

Yeah but they are not the same. Mr pinball is just a list of pinball machines that were searced the most. Doesn't mean anything. IPDB on the other hand is reviews and ratings of pinball machines.

I never trust the number I always read the reviews. I've picked up a few machines that were "rubbish" by a few, but by all other accounts were great, and I've loved them.

I like the reviewers that are basing their opinion solely off of a video port of the table. I wish they would preface the review with "I am reviewing this table from the _______ collection available for ______ system" that way I'd skip right over it.

I also hate the 0 comment reviewers. That shouldn't be allowed, if you are to lazy to write up a small paragraph then you shouldn't be reviewing a game.
