Top 10 Arcades in LA

Much obliged for bringing this to our attention... Many I didn't know about. Love the signage and retro motif of the bowling alley...

That is gorgeous. Man I wish the bowling alleys around here still had style. They're all just a bunch of plain-jane steel buildings nowadays.

Thanks. Ill be in la this weekend with a high school friend and we were looking for some arcades to hit up

here's my top 10 arcades in LA/SOCAL :)

ataricade
van's arcade
steve hertz arcade (sc3)
fatherpain
juanups
andys80sarcade
kalan's garagecade
herbertsmarts
vectorinvader's garagecade
xray's pinball/arcade

I like how only 2 of them are actually in LA

list should be called "the only 10 places that happen to have arcade games you can find in the greater LA and surrounding areas" ...no one who has ever been to playland or blipsy or family arcade would put the word "best" anywhere near them

I guess it depends on your definition of an arcade. My definition is that an arcade is a public place where anyone can show up and play. Under this definition, the above are private collections, not arcades. What makes an arcade interesting for me is the random gathering of people with varying degrees of skill, gettting your initials on a machine and returning days, weeks or months later and checking to see where you rank relative to other players who have come and gone. And of course playing against another, random player at the arcade.

Sounds more like a gay bar.
