Top 10 Arcade games of all time.....

Some of the comments are hilarious... "Where is Killer Instinct? Where are the King of Fighters" and something about Street Fighter 3 Third Strike.

I don't care for KOF, but that's not the point...do these kids think arcade games came out in the late 90s? Games like KOF and Metal Slug are not top 10 titles for a reason...they weren't genre changing, they didn't have mass appeal and they didn't rake in cash hand over fist (KOF sucks btw)

I think there is a difference between "great" and "popular". Of all those games on that list, I can't see too many people wanting a DDR in their house. And just because a game was the FIRST to do something, doesn't make it the best. Lots better driving games than Daytona USA...

And when this same subject arises again in 10 years you will only see games for the Wii. Xbox360 and PS3. Instead of "Video killed the radio star" there will be a song like "consoles killed the pac".

Thats list is a joke. Nice to see Pac Man, and Galaga make the list. But this is a list made by people who missed the golden age. It should be called the top 10 arcades for the people who missed it, or the top 10 arcades for the 90's. Come one. Dance Revolution, NBA JAM, Street fighter:eek: Where is Tempest, DK, Battlezone, Star Wars, Centipede, Tron, and tons of others blow that list away!!

I don't agree with some of their choices (NBA Jam was a big surprise), but I didn't really expect to concur the moment I clicked on the link. Lists are always so subjective...

The most ridiculous list I have ever seen. And absolute blasphemy for not having Donkey Kong on this list. While street fighter 2 was revolutionary, its success spawned countless cookie cutter fighting games and essentially ended originality in game design that made the early 80's games so memorable. Xmen was a pretty lame game so someone was smokin crack with this one.

How the hell did X-Men it on the top 10 list??? WTF....it seems like the people who choose this top ten list were gamers in the 90's, and missed the golden age. Only 2 games from the 80's made the list.....HELLO? The 80's were the GOLDEN AGE of the era.

They called SFII, a "Genre Defining Masterpiece".

NOT! It might be a moneymaker, it might be groundbreaking... But it is very antiquated.

I would think that Final Fight would define that fighting genre, tho not a real player v player if thats what they were going for. Defiantly a 90's upwards list.

Maybe everyone here should put together a top 10 list? I suppose this has been done...?

in no particular order:

gyruss
galaga
ms pac man
1942
donkey kong
centipede
super mario bros
asteroids
joust
tapper

Agreed, Daytona was not on my radar for driving games, I am shocked not one Nintendo title made this. I do agree with sf2, somewhere on there, but no DK, or Missle Command, Berzerk, kind of shocked me, heck, even Frogger could have landed there......

I agree with some of the picks but others leaves you wondering WTF has this person even played more then 10 arcade games?

I think SF2 should stay I know it gets hate but people recognize the name as it has become an icon. If it had a dedicated cab with killer art i think people here would cut it more slack.

Daytona USA is a cool game but I think pole position or outrun should have made it instead, but then again i prefer arcade games rather then the more recent simulator type drivers.

The list should not be all golden age games, plenty of popular franchises have come out since like DDR, Big Buck Hunter, and Golden Tee. Most of them are fun too.

Most people when you talk about games know the basics like (ms)pac-man, asteroids, space invaders, donkey kong. Then you have the ones most people know like frogger, centipede, joust, and galaga. but that's just coming from my experience. Prolly cuz most of those have been redone on the new game consoles or have been in the media like king of kong.

Lots better driving games than Daytona USA...

True, but most of the better ones came after Daytona imo. And I think what made daytona so fun was the 8 player link play. I remember lines to play the 8 player link at the local Dave and Busters when it first came out. I remember practicing it on the Sega Saturn just to go play in the arcade. I think it made the list more because of that.

Ditto, The list was made buy 19 - 25 year olds, missed the Golend Age! The lack of true video game history / knowledge is so obvious. Space Invaders caused a coin shortage, did DDR? ha!
