Well based on various topics recommending these tools and figuring I needed better tools to work on PCB's and other arcade goodies I decided to buy the following..

Hakko Fr-30 Desolder gun
Weller WES51 Solder gun

I figure if I'm going to be in the arcade hobby better to have the tools necessary to get the job done. The $10 solder gun from Radio Shack was not cutting it....

I guess the Eprom burner and CRT rejuvenator is next. lol

I made the same jump to that Weller after going through hell with the Radio Shack iron. I was shocked at how much easier it was with the proper tool! Haven't made the jump the Hakko desoldering iron yet though.

I hope you bought the right hakko. The 100v version seems to die quickly.

The right size tips work wonders.

Oxidized solder can tempt you to crank up the heat.
Use fresh solder to break up the oxidation layer.

Experiment on junk pcb boards..

You will get the hang of it..
