Can't stop playing this thing (eventhough the sound is stuck on extremely low).

Did you try adjusting the sound pot? IIRC, it's on the inside of the coin door.

Tried that, no dice. Messed with the pot on the cheap squeak and the game sounds came right up! :D Totally cool!

Except, does this game play music? I think I read somewhere that it does, but I'm not getting any music. :(

Still fun to play. Kids have been at it for a couple of hours. :)

Found an old thread by Ken Layton on this board:

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=48507

Turns out there are different game sound settings NOT mentioned in the manual, and mine was set on what I can only describe has "library mode." Not a lot of sounds, and it seemed like only half the field made sounds when you hit it.

The different modes I found turn on and off this repetitive sound that just that just keeps getting faster and faster until it ends in an explosion sound, and then starts over. This is what I saw described on ipdb.org as an "egyptian beat." I would describe it as anything BUT that. "Music" is so subjective.

I don't think there is a sound track to this pin. It would be nice if there were, but I don't see anything in the manual about it and I can't find any proof of it anywhere. Thankfully the alternative setting as described in Ken's thread above livens up the game sounds so it's way better now.

:D

Welcome to pinland! I think I saw that on CL....looked interesting but I'm not into the early 80's games too much. Good first game though, at a good price. Those early 80's games don't have much in the way of music....I had a Time Fantasy (83) and it had Joust/Defender sound FX and a simple ambient background droning sound.

I don't think you really saw real soundtracks until around '86. Grand Lizard had a simple jungle drum beat. I had a Gottlieb Gold Wings which had some pretty sweet NES type music.

Awesome pin, looks great hows the game play? i have a thing for Egyptian theme games..

Mainly you want to try to light up the "black pyramid" lights at the bottom of the playfield by hitting various targets. Right where the ball comes out from the launch ramp, there's a kickout hole, above which there is a series of lights that spells out "black," the light cycles through these, and which ever one it's on when you get in the kickout hole is the one you get lit up down at the bottom. The letters in "pyramid" are strewn about symetrically in targets along the rest of the playfield. There are big bonuses and score multipliers in the left and right side ramps, which are trickier to hit than it would seem, and there's some kind of 200k bonus if you hit the moving target in the middle at the right moments to light up each character of the "*200000*" just below it. We've been playing it quite a bit, I've only broken 1.7 mil. I'd be playing now but the kids took an impromptu nap on the couch.

Thanks, Greg. It was tough to pass up, as this one popped up not 20 minutes away. I had to at least go take a look at it. I'm pretty sure this is going to end up being only the first of at least a few pins in the collection. And I thought I had space issues before. *sigh*
