Needless to say everything was nearly beat to hell. I was surprised to see as many decent games as there were. I asked the owner if they would ever sell any, but of course they always have something stuck up their asses. Paperboy has been raped of any dignity, Space Harrier doesnt work, and hardly any games had working marquees. Pinballs were all trashed. Such a shame...

I think your lucky to even have an arcade near by. Even the miniture golf places now days just have those ticket type games, where you give your kid $20 and it's gone in 10 min. What happened to the games that took skill? The games that were fun at all levels of skill. Why are games like pac-man still fun, because they are fun at all levels of skill. They have character (no pun intended). I would stick quarter after quarter to get to the next level. I guess that's why we collect these classics.

Hey Drew, where is that arcade at? I have never seen it. I think the best one in town is at John Asquaga's Nugget. Not many older games, but still a lot of fun games to play. BTW, if you want to play the Star Trek: The Next Generation or Medieval Madness pins, they are both on the second floor at the Sienna.

Don't tell me that is Magic Carpet golf? I have been trying to track down and document all the arcades and pinballs in the Reno/Sparks area, and that is one of the last place I need to go. There and your work... maybe a couple bars to check out some pins.

I was really shocked at how many of the casinos advertise on their websites that they have pinballs, and they don't. We are fortunate though to have the casinos around and they do have some good games. Cal-Neva has the best by far when it comes to games and conditions. They have a beautiful Dr. Mario in a DK cab (pics coming tomorrow) that I am in the process of working a trade with the casino for.

Anyone in Reno/Sparks have any little spots that you like to play games?

I went to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk while I was in the bay area for CAX/family visit. That was a cool arcade, and a good number of classics too. First time I've actually seen a simpsons bowling. I took pics so I'll have to do a post about it soon. Brought home a few tokens too - they look the same as I remember them looking in the 80's.

arcades

We have a funopolis (kinda like chucky cheese) nearby and you guys are right. I took the kids there the other day and there are no classics. You have to swipe a card and it takes alot of money.

I hav e a better arcade at my house lol

I have /Galaga/Centipede/Donkey kong 3/ Super Mario Bros/Free kick
I would feel complete with a Tron/Dragons lair/Pacman

very cool to see some classic games still in the wild, if it was me I'd try and get them to sell me that Space Harrier and Paperboy.

Yep, thats the Magic Carpet on S. Virginia. I asked if there was any possible way I could snatch that Paperboy from them (even though ive already got one, I cant bear to see this one suffering), and they pretty much told me to f*** off. But if you come to CEC, dont expect to find many good games. The best thing would be the 6 classic 1992 Skeeballs and a Pirates of the Carribean Pinball. I havent been to the Cal Neva arcade, I didnt even know they had one??

I can't see the games because I can't take my eyes off of that wallpaper and flooring. Is that gameroom inside of a "Southern Kitchen" that failed in 1984?

Thats where I got my Mario Bros from . It was full of Boardwalk tokens at the bottom of the cab .

Haha...you're right....I had to go back and look...the decor is pretty bad. You are probably right on the "Southern Kitchen." It used to be some kind of restaurant I'd bet. Who needs to redecorate for a change of business?

That costs money.

Pretty funny.

And the cool thing is the guy I bought my change machine from on the trip down bought it from the Boardwalk years back. It's cool knowing my change machine came from there! And there is evidence of it too - corrosion from the salt in the air. (nothing horrible though)

Arcades are dead in these parts. Still want to check out the Nickel City arcade in San Jose that has the "classic" free play wall. I bet all of them aren't even working. But that's being pessimistic.

Other than that, there's Golfland, Dave & Buster's, Boomer's and movie theaters. Most suck. Nothing like the old Aladdin's Castle days.

I was thinking the same thing Wade. Would it have killed the owner to maybe paint the walls? How bout ditching the 70's tiles? Jeez, would you expect pristine condition games in a place where they can't decide on a matching material for walls?

All in all though, decent selection for as shitty as that place looked. Not collector status, but machines looked better than anything I find sitting around my laundremats.
