Toobin Monitor??? Is there a problem with them?

Are replacement monitors hard to find? Any recommendations for an option. I have a Toobin that is close by and I was going to buy it but the seller says the monitor could use to be capped. Not sure if that's code for "I've tried repairing it and realized the monitor is dieing so now it's up for sale"

He's a nice guy and we have a mutual friend so i dont think he is doing that but i am now worried about getting home and being stuck with a $350 game that I can repair and have to piece out (which I HATE doing)

Thanks

You can try a TriRes monitor. I am about to do this with mine.....after a few other priority projects.

The main part is the flyback. Chad at Arcadecup may have repo'd these, I don't recall.

If he is a good guy (i.e. you trust him) and the monitor is working but has weak colors I'd say you have little to worry about. If the monitor isn't working at all then you may have a problem. Do you know what is wrong with the monitor?

I wasn't aware anyone was selling 19" tri-res monitors anywhere.

If it's a normal med-res K7000 chassis, then yes, the regular K7000 flyback will work as a replacement, and are available in various places. I just fixed two of these monitors recently for two Paperboy's, which also uses the 19" med-res monitor.

If it has the K4915, then the flyback is most likely fine and a cap kit and cold-solder touch-up job is all that's likely....

They are around - http://www.arcadeshop.com/parts.htm#Monitors
Just the 25-27-29, etc seem to be in more demand.

Is that for real? As in, a 19" medium res monitor is REALLY available???

I have a Toobin that is missing the monitor. I don't have any $$ into it, other than gas to the other end of town to pick it up. The previous owner said it played blind and I have no reason not to trust him. I haven't fired it up, however.

The list a 19" that supports EGA, so if they have one in stock and it DOES support EGA, then it will work...

The other thing that's important about the monitor in a Toobin' is the frame. The cabinet is compact, and a regular shelf mount or universal mount monitor frame will stick out the back so that you can't put the back door on.

Check out the Toobin' manual and you can see the frame style that came on these from the factory.

I was just doing a little research about buying a Toobin and this caught my eye...

What do you think they meant about the monitor being important to get this price?

(FYI: I'm the guy with this particular Toobin')

There was no "code" at all. Just like the clip I passed along, the monitor is in very good shape. I just mentioned it could use a cap kit 'cause I'm not sure when it last had one (if ever), and thought that maybe the colors could "pop" just a tiny bit more. (Not that they're bad or anything of the sort.)

I'm sorry I stumbled across this thread so late, and also sorry that I mentioned possible future maintenance and inadvertently dissuaded you from picking up a pretty nice machine. I was just trying to be very thorough and straight up.

:(

I got the LAST d9500 from Happ for my toobin. Like BT stated, it fits - but a corner hangs out the back. However there is enough room to "trim" the corner off to get the door to fit.
It looks great! But I am disappointed as once in a while - doesnt have a pattern of when, the gmae will lose sync and black out the screen from 1-3 seconds. Im not sure if its a board issue, wiring, or something in the monitor.
But its 99% playable so im not going to mess with it. Not yet at least.
