Hey guys, just picked up a nice toobin with a REALLY sharp looking monitor today. I got it home and first the monitor and the sound would not come on. Then after checking all the connections a few times I finally got both the sound and the monitor to come on. I turned it off ran out for a bit and when I tried to turn it on the sound came up but no monitor, after turning on and off again a few times the monitor finally decided to turn on. Any idea what could be causing this problem? When the monitor comes on it is a VERY sharp picture, zero burn, it looks fantastic. The game just travelled 150 miles via van and im sure there were bumps along the way. Any help would be appreciated. the inside of the cab was FILTHY and there is still a lot of caked on dust in there. I did give it a quick shopvac to gut the tumbleweeds out and all the cobwebs.

Let me know if you have any sugestions.

First, clean all of the dust out. Next, your symptoms still sound like a loose connection to me. I would start at the power cord and work my way through the entire cabinet. I would also disconnect/reconnect every point along the way. Good luck sir and that is one awesome game.

Hmmm...I Have cleaned it up and it is still acting strange. Could it need a cap kit or new flyback? when the monitor doesnt come on the game plays blind....

I would agree with the loose connection thought. I would assume an issue with the edge connector making connectivity since both video and audio are being spotty. Just a guess..

checked all connections, everything seems solid. Also, if the monitor does not come on when the game is started it does not come on at all. I switch the power off then turn it back on, if the monitor is going to come on it will come on when I flip the swich back on. There is no delayed picture, either it fires or it doesnt. I do hear a slight crackle when the the game is powered off coming from the monitor, nothing crazy but it is def there...

any other suggestions?

You may want to pull the chasis and visually inspect it for cold solderjoints and reflow all the connectors while you hav it out. Also check the flyback and see if its cracked.

I would put in a cap kit. Its probably a k7000 style medium rez monitor in there. If the caps are bad/going, and you listen carefully, you might hear the snap of HV when it first turn it on. If no pic, then its shutting itself down and needs caps.

Bump...

Now the monitor will not come on at all. Still plays blind, marquee and coindoor also work.

I did make sure all connections were solid and re-seated the monitor board back on to the tube....no help at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this issue and it turned out the actual CRT neck was no bueno. I did a cap kit, replaced a flyback, redid all my connections and nothing fixed it. Eventually I came across another monitor and it all worked great.

I always thought it was strange because the first monitor, when it came on, looked absolutely beautiful.

I am at the same point with one of my k7000 med res monitors. Best option right now for you is to do a cap kit and replace the flyback (I did a cap kit alone on mine and it didn't help, but since you are in there you might as well do that too). Best option for ordering is therealbobroberts.net, he does not accept paypal but does accept other methods of payment. You can get the parts elsewhere, but it will be more expensive.

Good Luck!

I have a med res WG 49XX in a Paperboy. The screen was squished and looked wonky. I did a cap kit and it was dead. I took it back apart, checked my work, etc.. it wasn't until I started reflowing components on the PCB that I magically/accidently fixed it. I have read that these chassis get cold solder joints and cracks that are damn hard to find. The squish turned out to be a bad pot.
