I just bought an LCD for a Toobin I have that the monitor lost its purity rings and is out of convergence. I also purchased an EGA to VGA converter.

For the last few hours I have been trying to get this monitor to sync without any luck. The closest I get is a screen full of garbage. After doing some more reason on the forum it appears that my Toobin uses positive sync whereas the converter board on allows negative.

Is there a way to change the sync on the Toobin board? If not then does anyone know how I can switch the sync to negative? It seems some people have used a 74ls04 chip. Are these still sold at some radio shacks?

Does anyone know how I wire the 74ls04. So it will convert the sync to negative? I can't seem to find any instructions.

The Toobin Schematic Package Manual shows /CSYNC on pin 9 of the video connector. Your probably need to add that wire to the harness.

I picked up 2 7404s and made me a pair of sync inverters. It did make some what of a difference. Now I can read what's on the rolling screen, but the colors are still way off.

I did see a YouTube video that said that the board is really finicky with power and requires 4.95v exact. Currently I am getting 5.03v at the inverters. Tomorrow night I am going to adjust the voltage. If that doesn't work, then I'm not sure what to do.

I'm not that electronically inclined and I've been out of the arcade scene for almost 3 years, so this plug and play solution is becoming a major project.

I'll try the /CSYNC if I cant get this Working soon, but i'll have to use a different chip to invert the sync. I think it's a 7400. Not sure.

sync

5.03 to 4.95 wont make a change
in fact id say 5.03 would be better

Well, it was the /CSYNC on pin 9 that did the trick and the polarity didn't need converted. The colors were way off, but I was able to dial them in. I changed the voltage to see what would happen and nothing changed.

I was so excited to play some Toobin again, but realized that after I pulled the CRT out, that the LCD had too much space to fit. Now I need to build me a new bracket for the LCD.

I am remembering why I stopped working on these now.. If its not one thing that you need it's another. Lol

Would be cool if you could post some pics and maybe some info on the bracket you make once you're all done. I've got a Paperboy, Champ Sprint, Toobin', and an APB that may be getting this treatment someday.

Arcade shop.com sells an LCD mounting bracket for $69. I am still thinking of extending the current bracket that's there. Hopefully that will cost less. Unfortunately the monitor bezel is curved for the old monitor. I'll have to figure out what to do so it fits.

I may have to do something like this to a Toobin I just recently picked up. The monitor came hacked with some broken pins, etc. The game plays blind. I was thinking of trying to mount a PC CRT with a video converter. What converter did you use? Can you take pics of the screen, mount, and the cable? How are your results? Would you still go the same route over? I would really appreciate the extra info!

Thanks!
