Toobin contest header

I'm in for 23

Hopefully, whomever gets this sends it to be scanned, regardless :)

Ok, there has been a development with this. I was contacted by a guy from the strong museum and he offered me a little for it, but more than that, i kind of like the idea of having the original in a museum. I told him there are 2 stipulations, first is that if i was to send it to them, a hi res scan would have to be made available for anyone who wants it, and second, i would post on this thread what was going on. I started this thread and since so many people have taken interest in it, i wanted to ask the opinion of the people involved.

I will give you guys the opportunity to chime in. If most people want to let the contest continue, i will and if most people are ok with it going to a museum and having a scan available i will do that. I personally like the thought of it being preserved with a bunch of other arcade collectables, but i just wanted to get some input. thanks

What is the strong museum?

The National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY. Non-profit started in 1969 and open to the public since 1982.

I haven't heard anything about it until today and now I'm dying to take my little girl there. Looks and sounds like a great place.

I freaking love stuff like this and it honestly makes me want a Toobin even more

I won't guess a number because I have no way of scanning but whoever does get this please make it available for us!

You can't keep moving the carrot, man. Just take it somewhere, scan it and make the file available. Then send it to the museum.

The Strong Museum of Play has a vast collection of Atari coin-op division materials, along with over 250 arcade games in the collection. As the arcade conservation technician I maintain and preserve all of the pinball and arcade games in the collection. We have some very rare pieces, along with many prototypes, including a Toobin' prototype. We received 27 pallets of original Atari documentation and house many other vast collections. We are a real museum, with the infrastructure and ability to preserve all of our collections properly for generations.

Be sure to check out the website, we have a lot of things that people are not aware we have.

Atari Coin-Op Divisions Collection, 1972–1999

The collection encompasses a wide array of historical materials, including more than 3,000 pieces of original concept and final arcade cabinet artwork, hand-drawn assembly design sketches, story boards, photographs, and print advertising proofs; hundreds of original art kits and production films for Atari arcade video game cabinets; nearly 2,800 videos of game demos, television commercials, industry show presentations, focus groups, and company celebrations; arcade game source code; promotional materials; and an unreleased "Maze Invaders" arcade video game—one of only two units known to exist. Also included are dozens of binders chronicling the production of virtually every Atari coin-operated game from 1972 to 1999; extensive corporate records documenting game brainstorming sessions, industry and market research, and player game evaluations; as well as company correspondence, newsletters, and technical documentation.

Or keep your original word and send it to whomever chose the correct number.

Perhaps the museum could repro it and give everyone who guessed up to this point a free one??? If the OP just gave it to them free, like he would have to a winner, they could use the cost they would have needed to buy it towards this. At least it would make it a tad more fair to everyone if the rules change.

Can't Kinko's, Staples, OfficeMax or even a private print shop scan this for you? How about if 20 members here chip in, say, $5.00 each to defray scanning costs. I doubt it would even be close to 100.00 but we'll see. Then if the files could be made available here for another $5.00 to anyone who'd like to repro it? Then the original could go into the museum. Win-Win-Win all around. What say?

Or, we could just go with the original idea from the OP, the contest, then ensure that everyone gets a high res scan for reproduction.

I can do a high res scan, but wouldn't be able to host the file. I could send the scan to the OP and someone can host and distribute the file.

If I get the scan, who would want to host/distribute it. This seems to be the best solution to me, everyone has access to the file and the original is preserved and displayed in a museum. There would only be 1 person who would really be out anything, and that would be the eventual winner. But I think it would be better served to be in a place like the museum instead of on someone's game in a basement.

I think you are overthinking/overvaluing this thing. It's cool yes but it's not a priceless artifact. Scan it and send the file to This Old Game to be repo'd for people who want one. He'll do a good job. He's actually in the process of scanning the Atari Road Blasters T-Shirt giveaway sign right now. Then send the original to the museum or whatever.

Yeah I realize its not the ark of the covenant, but I still think it would be better suited in a place that is dedicated to arcade stuff. I mean VAPS, and all that. The ultimate goal was to get a scan made available for the community. And at best, I'll be Able to get a repro bezel for my toobin from joeycuda for what ij get for it. I think I'll just have them send the scan to someone for reproduction, that way it will be made available to everyone, sound good?
