Well, I pulled the trigger, after a few weeks of negotiating on and off with the seller, I ended up with an original Defender Cocktail! I was hoping for a bigger deal on a grail game, but that fell through, so on to smaller things! Way my luck has been, but I'm hoping to turn it around..

Serial #502991, this is in great shape! It appears it has had some modifications done to it, IE the battery set on the board, and it appears that this is not Black from the factory, but whoever converted it to black did an absolute amazing job with it! I actually like it better with the black sides than the woodgrain paneling, so it's all good!

I played Defender like crazy when I was younger, but hadn't played it in 15-20 years I would guess. I had forgotten how difficult of a game it is! I need to go into the settings and mess around, perhaps set it easier. I also don't remember the moutains dissapearing after the aliens capture all the flags (or whatever they are) and it staying that way for every round after? Is that correct, or is there a setting to make this easier.. because it gets friggin almost impossible once the mountains blow up and you go to the next round :)

Here's some pics, for now I'm going to play the crap out of it and decide as to whether to keep it or sell it..

Yup. You don't want them picking up the last humanoid, or the mountains are gone and life becomes hell... ;)

Just for clarification, once they pick up the last one the moutains are gone for the rest of the game? Damn, that's important to know.. I guess it's been too long since I played this game, lol.

It is about time you bought that game. :)

And what are talking about luck? You got a sweet deal on a SW cockpit, yes, you turned it into an upright but you seem to have some decent luck.

I had dibs on the SW cockpit and passed it off and regret the hell out of it, lol. Different story, though :) Upright is in the works, we'll see... I may not be on top of the "list" for that one, I need to confirm that. Aaron is very serious about honoring his lists of people waiting. Good thing is there are plenty of upright SW's out there.

My collection is getting better and better, I may have to have an arcade party soon... Now if I only had more room to put everything! I may have to wait until it cools off so everyone can play the games in my garage :) Can't wait to have all the Florida guys over...

Not necessarily for the rest of the game, depending on how good you are. Default settings are (I think) the planet comes back every fith wave with a new bunch of 10 humanoids, though you can increase this interval to make it harder. With practice, the outer space screens can become no harder than the planet screens - get them all bunched up at the start of the wave, hit them with a smart, then mop up the stragglers.

PS. Nice cocktail, by the way.

I love Defender. It's the original "to many buttons" game. Williams had the best sounds of all of them in my opinion. Or, perhaps, it's just that they stick in my mind the most from the 80's.
