This opertor I know is going to want to buy 150+ token mechs and probaby 5000-10,000 tokens. There are a few posts here about getting the tokens, I have not seen any about the mechs. Whats a good source to get mechs?

I think they have a few games with what I want to call a comparitor mech (ddr had one) where you put in the size of coin you want it to accept into a holder and will take it. I think you have to add voltages to them. Do they make one that does not need power? Are they worth getting? ddr had one kind of like this:

Also, I would assume the larger the token the less likely it will jam. So probably .984 would be best. If not whats the best size of token to order.

I went with .900 tokens for several reasons, including:

-cost: less material, lower price
-fit in all coin doors without modification
-.984s wouldn't work in my Rowe changers I had at the time, but no longer a problem with my American changers

I got a case of token mechs from a seller named dirtcheaptrading on eBay, around $11 each, IIRC

As far as how many tokens to order, I started with 5000, now 9 months passed, I am missing 1700 of that 5000 and will have to reorder soon. It has come to a point where I have to pull the tokens from the machines every week so the changer doesn't run out.

Yes, most of those comparitor mechs will need +12v DC to operate. There are other mechanical roll down mechs that style that use a regular micro switch, made by Imonex or Asahi Seiko ("donkey kong" coin mechs)

they have 2 american changers. I figured 10k tokens would be best. They are going to be running about 60 to 70 games.

I assume metal mechs are better. Is it worth the difference (ebay twisted quarter has them $17 plastic and $20 metal)?

The ones Happ sells that have a metal back with plastic front are fine. No coin jams to date. Ask around for case pricing, it should be a few bucks cheaper per mech, 50 come per case.

I wanted to go with the all metal coin mechanisms brand mechs, but couldn't find them much cheaper than $18/mech, even in 50+ quantity

The all plastic happ mechs are the worst, and jam from day one. I've thrown out hundreds of these, many were pulled new, before the game was even placed on location.
