TOG's Major Havoc conversion art is all sorts of awesome

The only thing I don't like is the CPO... the black isn't very black, it looks printed from an Inket, that 'artifical' black. I dunno, maybe i'm just weird. Black as... compared to the blacks of the sideart. Does that make sense?

Yeah, the CPO is the only art on the game now that isn't brand new. It's a bit faded, and there's some cracking at the bottom. I believe Rich is working on getting overlays produced, so that'll be the next thing I do.

That will be awesome. Is the Roller from the dedicated part of the kit or is that a mod you did?

The standard conversion uses a spinner. I picked up a roller from RAM Controls and modified the CP. It's much more fun (and easier) with the roller.

The grey does look good, but I think it pops too much against the blackness of 95% of the cabinet, it's a little distracting.

Your Tempest conversion with thisoldgame artwork on it looks spectacular. I am working on a Space Duel conversion. It is already running but lacks a proper cp. I want to install the RamControls roller controller (I already have it) but I have to make the modified control panel. For me to cut it accurately, I first need appropriate repro cpo art to serve as a template. I am hoping/praying that Thisoldgame releases a repro cpo. As far as I'm concerned, the entire project depends on that. I would have already purchased the repro cab art but I'm waiting for the cpo. There's not much point in spending so much money on the cab art if the cp looks like hell. As you can imagine, I'm waiting nervously and checking for progress or announcements daily. I'd love to be the first to post pictures of a fully detailed SD conversion. C'mon new cpo !

Thanks for posting the Tempest conversion pictures. They are very helpful in showing just how great the thisoldgame product really is. Great job on your machine.

Ok, who's front art is on upside down?

I think either way looks fine. I only went the way I did because the open cube on the side opens at the top, so I kept it that way for the front... then that part wound up getting cut anyway for the coin door.

Thanks for the offer on the t-molding. I'm going to let the black simmer for a bit, but I'll definitely hit you up if I decide to go grey (looks awesome!).

what is the best way to cut the hole for the roller?

I used a dremmel, and it did the trick just fine.

I didn't want to wait, so I bought an extra CP :)

Once TOG releases the new overlay, I'll use that as a template and transfer my roller to that CP.

Love it! Every time someone posts about the roller controller on KLOV, I get a landslide of questions about it.

Current RAM Controls KLOV "deal" is: $1000 store credit for $500. That is, pay me $500 and you get $1000 worth of goods - use it now or later....or both. Yes, you can even use it to get MH roller controllers!!!

LOL

BTW, VERY cool thread. That MH conversion almost looks factory to me!

Hey 30FDave that turned out great thanks for posting!
any objections to using your pics on my site?
Im pretty sure youve got that on right side up as least how I drew it up.
I guess I should mark those :D

+1 on the grey Tmolding and yellow may be interrresting to see

Just to clairify PhoenixArcade will be running the cpos from the orginal Atari films for the Tempest conversions on this.
Ive Been talkin with Darrin and I may help run those and will be splitting the run
on the diecutting so the cpos can be used for both roller or spinner.
Ill see if I can work up a paper template to include for those that opt to cut the panel for the roller

Awesome! No objections at all to using pics of the game. Thanks again for producing the artwork. I'm extremely happy with the quality.

What about the Space Duel conversions? Any hope of a roller CPO and template for those?

I believe the hope would be that the uncut cpos would work for SPace Duel/Graviar conversions. Ill have to check or pass the information on to PheonixArcade
anyone got measurements for Space Duel to compare?

I also definitely want a SD conversion model MH cpo with roller as well. I guess that means that I'll want the uncut cpo.

I measured my SD control panel tonight...

Total length = 23 11/16" [602 mm] exactly.
Total height = 17" [432mm] +-.125"

Distance from top edge to center of player-1 start button hole: 6.25" [158.75mm]
Player1,2 hole diameter: 0.500"
Standard button hole diameter: 1.175"

There are major (no pun intended) differences in the arrangement of the entities in the artwork between the dedicated, Tempest, and Space Duel cpo.

As you can see, the grid on the dedicated cpo is quite high and the controls are below it.
On the Tempest conversion, the grid is centered and the controls are up high.
On the SD conversion, the instructions are printed highest due to the upward curl of the panel. The grid is centered in the flat area and the controls are also in this area of course.

Notice that a cut Tempest cpo top edge is maybe 0.5" above the <MOVE> whereas on the SD, its about 6" above the <MOVE>.

On Tempest, there is no choice where to put the grid and the <MOVE>. It has to be very high. Unless the cpo is uncut and is printed with at least 6" of extra black area above the artwork, it will not reach the top edge of the SD panel and still place the graphics where needed.

Also note the differences in the placement of the words printed on the dedicated versus the conversions. Personally, I like them both ways. Most notable is that the dedicated used jump/shield buttons for player starts whereas Tempest and SD used separate cone buttons for player starts. Both T and SD placed the player start buttons on the far left.

The original SD panel has the player start buttons centered in the panel but obviously all of the holes will have to be relocated to suit the new repro cpo. If the new cpo is designed to fit the original Tempest locations of the player start buttons and the original spinner, then an original SD panel can be recut to match the new repro MH cpo for T using a template, this of course on the condition that the uncut cpo sheet has enough extra material top and bottom to center the artwork and still cover the entire panel.

With respect to Archer, these are pics of his previous superb work for SD conversion:
