TOG's Major Havoc conversion art is all sorts of awesome

I picked up a Tempest last month, and have been doing a little bit of work on it every week to convert it to a Major Havoc. Today was the final step: applying This Old Game's custom artwork.

I'm no expert when it comes to applying side art- just ask my Tron machine- but this one went extremely smooth. I'm sure it's nowhere near as perfect as what some of you guys are able to do, but I'm happy with it. Here are a couple of pics:

And the glorious money shot:

If any of you guys are weighing whether or not to grab Rich's custom art package for your conversions, for what it's worth, I give it a huge thumbs up.

Wow that is very, very nice. Personally I would have left the coin door area black. Seeing the grid on the overlay, front and side...well, that's a lot of grid. Still, very, very nice and you did a great job applying the artwork.

I was thinking the same thing. Black textured vinyl would be a little less busy.

...

I bought some art myself.. Just havent gotten around to using it.
My cab is above average in condition, so I dont want to destroy it :( So im waiting for a shittier Tempest cab to convert.

I'm really not a fan of Major Havoc, but that cab looks awesome. It really makes it seem like less of a conversion and more like a dedicated release. Nice work to you and Rich. - Barry

Gotta remember though especially back in the day that front would be about all you saw in an arcade.

That looks awesome.

Wow! Very cool. That looks sweet for sure.

Hmm maybe my Space Duel to Major Havoc needs to go back to being Space Duel and then with this extra Tempest I picked up.....Nah I cant art over good Tempest side art.

That's awesome. It looks like it could have come from the factory like that.

Yes, it looks very professional. Wow, just wow! I see you have the roller thingy instead of the spinner. The MH conversion Space Duel that I had used a spinner. I have never played it with the roller. What a challenging game. It ranks up there with Gravitar or Black Widow in difficulty with me.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this but I hate the dedicated cabinet. Its too skinny. I say the same thing for FireFox and Return of the Jedi (I think. The Speeder Bike one). They look like they would tip over if someone sneezed. I like the Space Duel cabinet much better for MH. The ship on the side looks like the ship in the game (at least I think so). I love the custom MH art, though. It truly looks like it could be dedicated.

Hey, thanks for the kind words everyone. That red T-Molding idea sounds interesting (I think yellow could be cool too). I'm gonna have to think on that one. :)

Very cool! Almost as good a dedicated Major Havoc.. almost!

And I think red T-molding would be amazing.

Oh man, that does look cool. Hmmm...

Joe, you gonna do white? I'll bet that'll look amazing. I may have to play around with photoshop myself...

I'll mess around with it today.

I cannot get over how good that art looks! You did an awesome job!

Now to wait for the conversion CPO... :001_sbiggrin:

I may try a grey too...saw some of that in the cabinet.

Looks like the colors that make it work are -

Black - I like that the best
Red
Yellow
White
Grey
Light Blue

The only thing I don't like is the CPO... the black isn't very black, it looks printed from an Inket, that 'artifical' black. I dunno, maybe i'm just weird. Black as... compared to the blacks of the sideart. Does that make sense?
