OH Canada Oh Canada why must it suck to ship to you

For the last few Months I been having Issues shipping to Canada
Mainly UPS and New Rules and Regulations with Taxes and Brokerage.

And Now UPS is charging me the Brokerage and Taxes for what I ship to Canada
Seems to be an issue with there website on that.
But simply don't have the time to follow up with theses
issues along with the extra time I put into shipping.

I am also considering eliminating ALL International Shipping

For a few of my regulars feel free to drop me an e-mail.
Will make exception to ship Priority International which will cost more :(

Rich...as much as I'd love to blame the Canucks for this, it's the incompetence at UPS that is the issue. UPS extort people shipping to Canada...be it the shipper or the recipient.

While I hate to see this type of thing, I can understand it. I recently (before Christmas) shipped a Satan's Hollow joystick from Canada to the US and it has yet to arrive. Made me look bad and disappointed the guy I was sending it to.

I am not a regular, but my preference for shipping here to Canada from the US is always Priority International (and has always seemed cheaper than UPS after brokerage fees). I should have used the Canadian equivalent when I shipped that stick.

But, I also have a US address, so can use that instead.

UPS is awesome if you want to pay 3X what you should and have your package used as the ball in a rugby game.

UPS is alot cheaper tha priorty depending on the weight of the package.
and a lot of my Items weighing over the 4 lb mark Priorty becomes very expensive
That may still equil cheeper on your end with out having to pay a ups brokrage charge
But Unfortunatly that's not comming out of my Pocket or my Time

Frizz is correct it is an issue off the UPS site that could have been correected if I had caught it sooner.
This is where I don't have time to waste going though the extra steps to ship.
It would be unfortuenate to Canada who can Blame their Gov. UPS or Both

I don't understand why you have to pay extra taxes & Brokrage to UPS and not USPS?
I'd really would like to know.

That's true until they hit you (well... actually me) with the brokerage fees. Then it's a LOT more. There is no situation in my experience where USPS is not cheaper (total cost). That's their scam. It's cheap for you and they make up for it on my end with outrageous fees. I've been going down this road with UPS for many years. They also just plain suck at shipping. I can't recall getting a package from them that WASN'T damaged in some way. Including a huge box of NOS Atari 2600 carts that was destroyed that started my love afair with the company in the first place.

That said I'm not knocking you for your decision. If you're set on using UPS it's no surprise to me that you're having issues shipping to Canada. Personally I would not buy from you if that were the only shipping option and that's saying something because I hold you and your products in high regard.

EDIT: I called them once and asked them to explain how they arrive at their fees. The person I talked to couldn't explain it. Well... they tried to explain it but we both agreed at the end of it all that it was complete bullshit and gave up.

The fault is with UPS. No question about it. If it were something the government were doing I would be the first one to complain about it.

dont feel bad rich the only way ill ship international is usps as well..

ive had good luck, except with guam which ironically enough is a us territiry is it not??

I dont mind usps to canada if it fits in their flat rate boxes for example its pretty cut and dry. but oversized and heavy boxes just seems a bit much for prioty most of the time
It just seems wrong when you have to charge someone 40-50 bucks Intl shipping beacuse of that extra weight or size.
But I still dont see why ups charges that brokerage fee to begin with
or how its caluculated since its usally more than the ship itself
no wonder why you guys hate them so much, eh :D

The problems seem to have started this current year with the need of including 3 invoices of the sales reciept along with customs forms for both USPS and UPS
and if somethings not right its held up in customs untill that info is recieved
usally from my end needing to fax what ever info is required.

I understand where you're coming from but anyone who has dealt with UPS brokerage fees would gladly pay actual USPS shipping. Even at $40-$50. I know I would. It may cost less on your end but ultimately it ends up costing more and just generally sucking more overall. In fairness I haven't had anything shipped with them for about a year (I avoid it like the plague) but it doesn't sound like much has changed.

Sounds like they're cracking down more on making people pay sales tax. I'm surprised that didn't happen sooner.

it's almost becoming a no win scenario with canadian shipping. It's one of two extremes.. get it there in one piece and it's expensive OR get it there cheap and it's destroyed and slow.

Well I CAN say I've only once paid one of UPS' silly ass bills. They send em, I throw em in the trash.
You want your fees? You should have collected on delivery. Take me to court...suckers.

I have avoided sellers that use UPS for a long time now, but I'd bet on UPS having a good 8-10 unpaid "bills" for me, if they really wanted their money...they'd be hounding me.

If you want an example of how we get the shaft from UPS up here when we get something cross border, the last thing I remember is getting an item I paid $22 SHIPPED for.
I get a "bill" from UPS, for $15 in "brokerage" charges and a $5 handling fee. So my $22 SHIPPED item is now $42 SHIPPED? I don't think so...that's one of those "bills" I threw in the trash.
Where the hell does $15 come from on a package that wasn't even half that to ship, and why should I pay you $5 for touching my package when thats what I paid for shipping for? (It's not customs charges btw, there's no charges on items under x$ and this fit that category)

Reason enough to hate UPS like crazy don't ya think?

Edit: BTW I've also NEVER had anything damaged by USPS. UPS? They've DESTROYED 3 items on me over the years. How do you smash a PC case in it's factory box, encased in foam, that's inside another box crammed to the brim with packing peanuts? Someone had to have ran over that bitch or jumped on it...

Yeah, I've shipped a couple of things to Canada and always used the Post Office. Fill out a slip, pay a little more, wait 3-4 weeks, and it gets there...

Hmmm, you ship USPS not UPS. Problem solved.

Please don't stop selling to Canadians because of one crappy shipping company. As I mentioned in the other recent "UPS sucks" thread on here, USPS is the way to go. I won't even buy something from the States anymore if the seller insists on using UPS. Their B.S. brokerage fees are ridiculous. With USPS it's $5 flat, and if I'm not home when they attempt delivery, it goes to my local post office for pickup instead of some UPS depot god-knows-where that closes early.

There is a strange exception to the normal UPS rules of smash, multilate and extort -- DigiKey uses UPS to ship to Canada and I always get my packages the next morning, in great shape, with $8 shipping and no brokerage fees. I guess that is because DigiKey takes care of the collections of taxes and bypasses the ugly side of UPS.
