I would like to get some feedback from the people that purchased one of Rich's EDOT black light covers.
About 2 years ago, I sent Rich my EDOT black light cover for reproduction purposes. Just last week I finally got it back as well as a reproduction cover. I have to say that all of Rich's work has been spot on as far as I am concerned, however this piece is a different story. I dont even know if this will work on my machine (without breaking it)
I havent talked to Rich about this yet, because I wanted to get some feedback from others on this piece. I want to find out if they are all like this.
I have also attached a lot of pictures to try and show what I am talking about - although it wasnt easy to photograph these problems... to see it in person is another story.
Here are some areas of concern. First - the edges of the plastic are chewed up in places.
The right side of the repro cover takes a gradual uphill climb about 2/3 of the way from left to right.
The bottom is definitely not straight - its sunken in in the middle when looking at it straigh on.
The screw holes on the top are almost touching the bend - compared to a significant gap on the original.
When I line the original and the repro up together the bend is way off.

Now I know its probably very hard to get these right.. but I really need some feedback from others that purchased these. Thanks

Actually I think your pics clearly show what you describe. No it doesn't look right to me. Especially the plexi not being straight. Kind of dipping in the middle as you mention then swooping up at one end. This defect alone would keep me from putting it on my machine. The off holes might actually not fit the machine at all.

Just looks warped in to me. I think once installed it will be fine. install and post pics.

They are all like that, both EDOT and UDOT.

I ordered one of each since I have both machines, and both are somewhat warped and both are short where they bolt in near the CP area.

Here are some pics of mine, now they are OK in my machine and better than the faded ones (which I plan on keeping for originality). I figured after over a year of waiting, I'd just go with these. I know Rich has been busy, so I am not being critical of him.. These must have presented a very difficult problem for some reason. The original Tron covers are perfect, and I don't know what made these so much more difficult- but Rich said they were.

I thought about sending them back, but I have to move on with my project EDOT and can't wait any longer.

Here's mine, the right side sits on the counter FLAT and you can see how warped they are as you go to the left. The last pic shows how short the cover is, the screw hole is about 1/2" above where the original screw holes were.

Hard to tell in this photo, but the EDOT cover was also warped a little, but it wasn't as bad as the UDOT one. I did manage to get it to work, but it's not perfect and I will be keeping the old one with the machine.

thank you for your reply on this...
Let me point out a difference though... yours does not lay flat on the one side - thats not how its supposed to be... however you could secure it tight to the mounting wall with that screw-hole. My right side is higher... If it was like yours I wouldnt worry as much.
Also the hole pictured (that is off) is on the bottom and not nearly as critical as the ones on the top in accordance to the bend.
Not trying to argue with you here - but yours has some relatively easy fixes with carefully fastened screws.

No problem, I don't consider it arguing, just talking about it. You can tell it's warped on both of my machines if you look at it, but most people wouldn't notice it unless I pointed it out. My UDOT one is much worse on mine, however. Trust me, you don't see the warping in the pic of my EDOT cover, I lost the pics of it so I can't show them.

The one on my EDOT went on easier than my UDOT, and I can tell you that I didn't think it was going to work, but after a lot of cussing and patience it did. Definitely not like the Tron covers. :(

Your's is definitely worse than either of the ones I got, FWIW.

I guess this is what I need to know from the others that purchased these.
I know it was a limited run etc... but even if I could get this to fit - I really dont want to put this one on my machine... its just not good.
And that is just what you can see from the pictures... in person its not pretty.
Its just very disappointing after waiting so long for these.

Well, to give you an idea of the warping, both of these covers are sitting on a flat floor on a sheet that is not effecting the angle of either one. It's easier to see if you look at the arrows and markings on the cover to see that it was a very odd fit because of the change in the bend/angle it had to be mounted at.

Rich hopefully has another that he can send you right out... you certainly deserve a good one.

I just installed my UDOT black light cover today, it went on perfectly. Maybe because it went on a brand new cabinet, not sure. I'll take pix and upload them when i get a chance. As far as using the old versus the new there is NO comparison, Richs TOG repro looks drop dead gorgeous compared to the faded out original.

No question the colors are blast bright and look fantastic... but overall this one looks like it was a test piece more than anything

I got one of the first that came out. Mine was warped and unusable and I sent Rich pics immediately. He told me that several people got ones like this and he was going to make a new batch...but I think that was last August or so. You can't force that to fit. I believe that when they were initially bent, they were removed from the form too quickly, before they cooled. I think once they cooled, they tried to relax back to the original, straight form, and just ended up warping. I know several of us are still patiently waiting for our remakes.

Mine was not perfect either. But really, what options do you have? It is a custom hand made piece, there is going to be some sample variation. Bending plexi is not an easy task, and I bet Rich has ruined quite a few in the process of "getting it right"

IIRC, i wasn't able to fully torque down on a hole or two, and there may have even been a little filing/enlarging or a hole involved. But really, just give it a go, be careful, use your head and it should work out just fine. That, or buy one from the other guy that makes them ;)

The picture speaks for itself.

i also got one of the edot covers from rich. i think i was one of the lucky ones as my plastic piece was just slightly warped. once i installed it i did notice the arrows were slightly off (i dont think anyone would even notice it, except myself), but damn it looks waaaay better than my old faded one. im very happy with the finished product.

i know for sure rich will make it right to all the people that got the warped ones.
