I'm working on a Toei CM-R14 (I compared to the CMA20HC schematic, and it looks to be the same http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Monitors/Toei 19in CMA20HC Manual.pdf) color monitor from a color Space Invaders II cocktail.

It previously worked fine, but now the image is only showing a few pixels vertically in the middle of the screen (keeping in mind the orientation of the monitor). However, the image is not "compressed" in the middle, rather it looks like it's displaying what should be shown, but only a few pixels wide. Attached is a simulation of what it looks like. The PCB has issues of its own but it's definitely a monitor issue.

I've seen this issue with Toei monitors brought up before but have never seen a solution. Seems like it's probably caused by a transistor of sorts. There is no vertical output IC like on some other monitors.

Okay, let's go thru this step-by-step:

1) Get yourself a marker. A permanent Sharpie will work well.

2) Next, make sure you have some good light and a flat surface.

3) Place your right hand on the flat surface.

4) Carefully use the Sharpie to write, "There is a Monitor help section now." on the back of your right hand.

5) Repeat for your left hand.

6) Carry on....

 :D

Be nice mod... just flag it and someone with privs will move it. I try to keep an eye on things like this, but have a lot of things going on in the carbon world at the moment.

As for the monitor issue? Common problem.

Recap it and check/fix cracked solder joints on the yoke connector. If that's not it, check the vertical output IC.
