Todd Tuckey liquidates personal arcade collection WTF

from the follow up video he mentioned that it wasn't because he needed the money but because someone made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

he will make video's of each games when they go over it in the shop.

In all honesty I have thought about selling my games. I don't need the space or the money. But, I have a very busy life. Work full time, teach college part time, have a large house with a large yard, a few rental properties and two little kids. I don't have the time I used to have to play them. I guess the hope is that when the kids are a little older, we can enjoy them together. I love the hobby, and the games, but at the moment it is really about time.

I'm in a similar boat and have thought about selling off everything but a MAME cab. I worry prices will hit rock bottom when I am truly ready to get out of the hobby and I'll be left with pennies on the dollar.

If that's your main concern, sell now. I'm enjoying my games because I love them and don't care if I have to give them away, as long as long as they go to someone that will love them.

When they're pennies ill be the shark out buying em' :D

WOW, I'm very surprised. I remember him talking about his cabaret collection in other videos but that's some SERIOUS stuff he's got there. Just like most of us asked, why is that he's selling all of them? Yea he'll make some good coin on them, but I hope he's alright - financially and business wise.

I know this hobby has it's highs and lows, but I hope that whatever the reason is, that it's for a good cause.

I believe he addresses the 'why I sold' question in the videos he has posted since announcing the sale.

Same here, I only have 3 cabs left. Friends also have kids, and have no time to come over and play games anymore. My gameroom is maybe used like 3 times a year.

'zactly right. Can't take it with you.

I don't know Todd's reasoning but you have to remember sometimes when collectors have some nice rare items (in any hobby) it's better that they sell them while they're still around to get the worth out of the items and make sure they get to good places, the worst thing ever is when a collector dies and their family has no idea what anything is or how rare it is or value, etc.

Not that Todd's going anywhere, just sayin'.

My grandpa had a model railroad collection that was built over a lifetime and contained 200-300 cars and maybe 150 engines (some he got when travelling in Germany). That stuff wasn't cheap, and it adds up. Also had lots of stuff that wasn't opened. Tons of track, buildings, etc... Complete trains from companies that were long gone.

He was a -collector-, and as far as I know, he never sold or traded with other collectors. When he died my grandma didn't know what to do with the stuff. Was before ebay, I was in the military, and no one else in the family had room for all of it.... so she called the local hobby store where he shopped and she donated it to them to disperse as they saw fit. I think they tossed her a couple bills out of charity, but they were able to obtain a princely collection for cheap. Of course, then they had to find something to do with it.

Someone made Todd "...an offer he couldn't refuse.." brings to mind some sort of mafia situation :)

Todd once had The Safe in his showroom with a sign that said "not for sale." I asked him a little while later why he wouldn't sell it and he said "The Safe is gone - I got an offer I couldn't refuse." So if he has something you want just make an offer he can't refuse.

Everybody has a price. I imagine most, if not, all of his games have been NIB games that have been in his home which are few and far to find these days.

Additionally, he has 2 kids in college. He previously sold his HUO Big Bang Bar and Theatre of Magic pins to fund that before. Perhaps he's just being a nice dad and helping them avoid student loans.

Well guys, the fact of the matter is sooner or later we all must make this journey. Either you burned out or sold out and left long ago or you hung onto what you have only to be passed down to someone else at the right time. And for Todd, that time has come for him for what ever reaons. The reasons are his own and they dont need explaining if he so chooses it. Good luck with your sale : )

This is the Internet....more over klov! I demand answers!!!

I'm torn between selling or holding onto them until my son is old enough to hopefully enjoy them. And down the road I'll be too stubborn to let anyone take them for too cheap...I'd donate or part them out just for spite.

I only have two games, but I wouldn't even get rid of them for a offer I couldn't refuse, lol.

Then technically it was not "an offer you couldn't refuse" was it.

I think everyone on this form has a magic number in the back of their head. If someone walked up and said "I'll give you x amount for these games" and it was at or above that number them games would be gone.

Todd Tuckey's Explanation! Right from the Horses Mouth!

Believe it or not, I was unaware of this thread until just now...every few days I do a search for "tnt" on klov to see if there is anything pressing, and also check my PM...but tonight, I did a search for Todd Tuckey and found this post!
Thank you all for your support and comments...it was nice to see so many that have enjoyed our videos over the years!

I started my cabaret collection in the oddest way. When I got married in 1996, my wife told me one of her "conditions" was that no arcade games were in our house. Since I had a two car detached garage, that seemed the logical place to put games. I had a few games there already, but the remains of my other hobby (16mm film collecting) was also there---racks of films--mostly odd reels from features--i.e. Reel 1 and 3 of Tootsie. I then made a deal with another collector for all 6000 reels for $1 each to take them all out at once (Value on these reels was $5 to $40 a reel, but it takes time to sell them--and there was no ebay yet).
NOW, I had LOTS of space and filled it with games. My daughter Tammy came along, and she even at 2 years old, loved the games and would wander around the garage with a stool and "play" the games. She LOVED going out to that garage! Well, soon, I found that the CABARETS or MINIS were ideal for her size AND I could fit more in...so I started replacing the full size games with as many cabarets I could find!
Well, this "Mania" turned into collecting..and I thought it would be fun to find ALL of the cabarets ever made...and VIOLA!

We moved from that house about 8 years ago and I built my dream game room...with 45 videos, 4 pinballs, and Seeburg's last jukebox (where you can see the mechanism again) and its been fun! BUT...the girls are 17 and 20 and no longer play like they did...and when they have parties, they have them at TNT---more games, easier to clean and control, etc (I have 80 games at TNT on freeplay)...
I have been toying with the idea of maybe selling the games for a few months when one collector asked me...he got another fellow involved, but they weren't sure they wanted everything...but another collector said he would buy everything these two guys didn't want---so it seemed like a no-brainer! The games will be going out over the next 8 weeks--in waves, as I am going over them again before departure. Also, about 25 of them have not really been finished at all (there are about 92 of them).

I will STILL have a full game room in the house---just different games (my wife wants THREE different Skeeball machines--yes there are different ones--for instance!) I will also keep several games forever (or until I am gone--then the wife will dump them)...my Sega Gremlin Dual upright games, my Sega Digger cocktail, Centuri Route 16, Taito Change Lanes, Quasar, and a couple others (these are not cabaret or mini games).

YES--I am sorry I never got a museum off the ground...but the CASH is certainly going to be good to get---college for two girls (I had kids late in life) and toward retirement at some point! (And of course I STILL have some 300 or more other games in our warehouses too after these are gone!) I am healthy---just fat! I plan to live to be 100...I want to play with my Grandchildren some day!
And oddly enough, I also have been selling some of my 16mm collection too--I have many rare film prints still in my collection (mostly cartoons)...did you know I sold 16mm cartoons to Mel Blanc--I have copies of his cancelled checks) when he couldn't get them from Warner Brothers. Several of my prints were bought by Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese & Joe Dante over the years. I shipped a hour long technicolor Disney film to Disney Studios in California last year that they wanted! BUT, I still buy cartoons to use at TNT for our arcade parties (we have about 1000 of them a YEAR since 1987--picked Best Of Philly for Grown Up Entertainment last year too!) rather than use DVD!

Anyway, I hope this filled everyone in and this was a good explanation of the sale...and subscribe to our channel so you don;t miss any of the cabarets going out. I plan on numbering them as we shoot the videos (Cabarets #1 and #2 are now up on the channel in Video #1150 for instance!) Maybe I will get some new fans! You can always email me at [email protected] too!

Yours in collecting...Todd N. Tuckey
