So i FINALLY get called yesterday by my supplier to let me know black melamine was finally delivered. I'd been waiting well over a week for it to show, so they can bring my order. 130 sheets, the most i've ever ordered. I had to build another rack next to my rack i've had for a couple years to hold it all. We get it all on there, and a little while later i hear the distinct sound of wood splitting. It's minor, and about every 10 minutes or so. I thought well, i better get cutting to get some of the weight off. First sheet is cutting, and i'm out in the drive talking on the phone to Fragged3d on here, and i hear "BANG" i saw it explode! LOL broke the upper and lower stringers, and now i'm pretty much fucked until i cut up all that white to get to the black.

I haven't drank in over a year - today i'm going to go grab a 12 pack and sit and stare at this total fuckup.

Although this sounds like a total bummer, I really think bottlejunkie's post from today is more along the category of 'tragedy' IMHO :D

ummmm mine's not late, but she's been getting sick EVERY night for over a week when she eats. And she's complaining her tits hurt. i don't EVEN wanna think about it. Just figured out the wood on top shifted about an inch towards the door. 30 sheets have to come off just to put the door down tonight.

This could have been a LOT worse. If the structure had only failed on one side it would have basically trashed every board or even totaled your garage. If you were next to it when one side failed, it could have killed you. Instead, that shit is still piled perfectly flat and stable. Consider yourself a lucky man!!

dont pickup the drink, better give me a call i will talk you out of it.

Drinking just leads to more kids and more trouble.

Just look at it as motivation to keep building cabinets... just in a different order than you had planned...

I am on my town planning board, and everyone one with a home business has to have racks engineered with weight ratings for their storage, which can get really expensive quickly.

Your lucky the bottom pile was not any lower or it would have all came tumbling down, got lucky. Why didn't you use any screws or glue at your connection points, or use something heavier like 2x6's or 2x8's ??

When you rebuild, you should use 2x6s and the Strongtie metal braces used for house framing. I think they'd hold up.

I was trying to finger out a way you could get those up in the air with maybe some 2x4's and a car jack but I think you might be screwed bro....:004_sconfused:

Clearly that rack was not engineered to hold that kind of weight. A single bolt through the center of the board reduces its capacity by about 75%. You needed a block under the board. Then you need the point loads as near the ends as possible.

Good thing you are only building game cabinets and not building large structures.
