Dammit.

I have a feeling I'm gonna want this machine more than any other coin-op machine that has come before.

But without winning the lottery, or the Nigerian Prince I've been working with coming through for me, I just don't see how I could ever get one.

:(

Why does Stern drop the ball on their release timing? Tron is a good example... as is 24... and CSI...

if they wind up making one, it will be my first NIB purchase. i'll be in a better position around august/september as far as having $$$$ saved up for the purchase, so i'm kinda glad it's (likely/possibly/whatever) gonna be released later in the year.

Yep, I'm getting one too. I just hope it isn't just an Avatar with EL wire hot-glued to the ramps. If it was a LOTR with EL wire hot-glued to the ramps, that'd be fine.

CSI and 24 were total misfires....but I think they would have been flops no matter when they came out. They're popular shows, but they don't make you think "I want to play/own a game version of that!"

Tron and Avatar are different. Certain licenses are cool and iconic and transcend release date. They are franchises that will be relevant for quite some time. People who want to buy/play a Tron pin aren't less interested in April'11 vs. Dec'10.

so we can mark you down as the one who won't be pre-ordering it. gotcha.

I really want this to be a good game. I WANT stern to survive. These pissy little "o, look what leaked on Facebook" schemes they run are childish, at best. That's my opinion, and I am aware that I may be in the minority, but I think they are stupid. If it helps them sell stuff, then hooray! I'd rather see a finished game that did not miss the movie release by 6 months. I know it's set to hit when the DVD does, but at that point, will they care as much?

I don't preorder anything. You never know if you'll like it or not. I'm not about to shell out 5K for something I MIGHT like. Sure sometimes that could bite me in the ass, but it's worth the risk for me.

they reach a very large audience by advertising on facebook. i don't have a problem with it. and i really don't think the pin hitting 5 months/6 months after the release of the movie will matter all that much....there's a lot of hype around the movie and a lot of interest in the pin. i think the interest will still be there in a few months...

Fair enough :) I hope you are correct. Like I said, I don't want them to fail. I do want them to succeed! One game won't do it, but it'd be a start. I think competition may be a good thing for them.

Hope Tron is good, and I hope I get to play one somewhere :)

competition would definitely be good for them....and good for the pin community. i'd love to see it happen.

You're asking if people will still care about Tron ....ON KLOV!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!

28 years later people care about Tron.

Tron Legacy is the most boring piece of shit, and people still care about Tron.

4 months won't make a difference...people who love Tron LOVE Tron.

....and I don't give a shit about Tron, and am excited for the Tron pin...lol....so there. :)

you really thought so? my wife (who is not a sci-fi fan and had never seen the original) enjoyed it. my brother (who thought the original was "ok" but isn't what i'd call a big sci-fi fan) did as well. everybody i've actually talked to that saw the movie liked it quite a bit.

i did have to laugh at your opening comment though. definitely a lot of diehard TRON fans here. :) i'm one. not sure why, but i always dug that movie. really enjoyed the new one too.

as far as the pin, i think that if they do it up right it could be a very big seller...you have the hardcore TRON fans that may never be interested in pinball again that would give some thought to picking one up & you have the pinheads who would snatch it up if they really went all out on layout/rules/light show/etc. i could see the pin being a big win for stern.

Outside of arcade nerds people don't give a shit about TRON right now let alone months from now. Like I said before... releasing the pin that far out will be good for players because it will be more "complete" but terrible for operators because a lot of the novelty will have worn off. Stern will probably make the same money either way.

With something like this it's almost inevitable that it will become dated. Not only the theme but the cool toys and lights they're sure to use will probably seem dated in a few years. That said... there's still assholes like me who love games like Bad Girls that are about as dated as it gets. If the pin is absolutely amazing I might consider buying one but by the time I've made up my mind there will probably be none available. That sounds about right.

I've ranted enough about it. It's a cool looking, cool sounding, nonsense piece of shit. End of Rant. ;) Looking forward to the pin, though...lol.
