Got a call from a guy saying he's trying to get rid of his Karate Champ...He wanted $1,100...I told him he's smokin crack. I went to take a look at it and was like...dude, I wouldn't pay more than $30 for it. He's like, ok take it. So for 30 bucks I got me this new toy.

It works 100%. Cosmetically the cabinet is rough. It needs a lot of woodwork. The Bezel and Marquee are in great shape, the CPO is good, but the joystick knobs have been replaced with blocks of wood LOL!

All in all I think I did good. I don't know if it's restore worthy for me, or if I should part it out eventually.

Definitely one of my 'want' games at the moment... :D

Awesome get. I'd pay $75~$100 if it was working and local. Those joysticks are hilarious!

Sounds like the "I dunno what it's worth, so I'll throw out a high price to protect myself, and then back off it once someone who obviously knows tells me" scenario.

Nice score. I love Karate Champ!

Yeah the joysticks are so goofy looking. They barely have any roundness to them. Looks like they were square blocks of wood that someone took a belt sander to haha.

And pookdolie, that's pretty much the exact scenario. He was an inner city guy who knew nothing about it, and just needed to get rid of it.

So far, I don't really know if I like the game, but I know it's farily popular among people on here so I figured I'd give it a chance lol

It definitely has a learning curve. Once you learn all the moves (16 or 32, I think...?) then it's on! Fun two-player game, kinda boring 1P game. Although, BITD, I could make a single player quarter last at least 10-30 minutes. I knew 'routines' to keep kicking the computer's ass. And a real person would show up occasionally, I'd whoop their ass, then back to beating the computer. :D

As a kid, I actually hand-drew all of the moves on a sheet of paper, how the joysticks went, what move that did, and memorized the hell out of it. Ah, good memories.

I am massively jealous of your $30 theft!!! Now change those joysticks before you decide if you like the game.

Looks like you have one of the earlier Karate Champ cabinets with the older style Data East coin door and the small yellow start buttons.

Later cabinets had the standard Wico over/under coin door and standard size start buttons.

Kyle

I didn't realize there were two styles of the cab...interesting.

And Jawhn, if I can find a good deal on some joysticks I'll consider replacing them haha but for now it's going in the shed while I finish up a couple pins. I might go play a few games later though. The joysticks are so loose they barely require any force to move around, idk if it's normal but it really isn't that great.

Did you actually say "You're smoking crack" ? :)

Super game - my daughter likes to play that one with me. Good score!

Still can't figure out the damn bull, tho.

Yeah, but then I realized I shouldn't have said it because he probably was...he was WAYY in the hood, in the scary parts of Buffalo haha.

Fruit belt? I went to UB from '97 to '01. I got lost my freshman year around there. Not good; not good at all! For anyone who doesn't know Buffalo (lucky you), the fruit belt is a series of streets named after fruits (cherry, orange, peach, etc.) that is/was one of the absolute worst areas in the city.

Anyway, nice grab. I'm jealous (of the game....not your trip to the fruit belt). :)

I imagine this was the Karate champ that was on Craigs list for way too much money, didn't even give it a thought. Congrats on the great deal.

Did you ever get those machines that someone wanted to traded the dart machine for?
