So...this is the strangest conversion I have now. Picked it up for $25...guy says he put a power supply in it 3 months ago and now it plays blind...he is tired of fooling with it and just wants it out of the way...it was at a retail business location...got there at 7am to pick it up.

I look in the back door, which is held on by wood screws...this is the second Berzerk cab i have now with the same wood screws holding the back door on - why people do this i dont know? but anyway...i look in there and the back half of the monitor yoke is just hanging there swinging in the wind...pretty easy to troubleshoot what the problem is...lol.

the cabinet was repainted with some sort of funky textured paint or it might even be some sort of laminate...not sure yet but its sort of a blue and gray speckled sort of thing...odd choice of covering either way.

It's set up for 2 player and doesn't look like there is much screen burn at all...so...don't know what i can salvage of the monitor yet, but the tube looks nice from what i can tell. Cabinet is in pretty good shape all things considered....was expecting worse...Coin door wires have been hacked all to hell though...looks like other parts of the wiring has as well.

Of course, once again it is raining so it's still in the back on my blazer...will post up pics later when i get a chance to unload it.

That TMNT board is worth a lot more than the price of the cab. $75-$100.

yeah...i was thinking about putting it in an NFL Blitz 4 player cab i have here...will have to change the sticks over to 8 way, they are not working on the Blitz as it is and i am getting tired of working on it lol....everything else works just fine and the buttons work...but all 4 sticks are dead.

I scored a popeye in a berserk cab in a three game deal for a 100.00. The two other games were breakout and venture. The Popeye still had the berserk pcb. I plan on restoring berserk but need bezel and marquee.

what's wrong with holding it on with wood screws? Sure, it's a pita when you need to pop the door off to get inside, but when I've cut new doors for my cabinets, I don't have extra cam locks handy to attach them in that way.

these are a particular LONG type of wood screw...both of my Berzerk cabs had about 8 of them holding the back doors on...exact same screws...one came from TN the other from MD...kinda odd.

hah, in that case, it's a bit excessive. I've just got two short screws holding on the doors.

well i would'nt know that.. You have'nt posted any pics yet.

yep...i know...just saying...lol.

Still raining here, but it was light enough for me to get it out of the blazer and so, here are the pics:

The board is legit...looks like it to me anyway...says Konami on it.
not the best pic of the board, but you can see what it says good enough i think...and the logo is on there as well below the name.

Data East Bezil it looks like sideways.

bottom of the cp looks to be different from a Berzerk.. If i recall right it was just a metal cp with controls on it.

yeah i'm not sure whats up with the CP either...it doesn't seem to latch down correctly...and I think my other Berzerk cab has a hinge on the CP, this one comes all the way off...looks more like my Gorf CP does.

and you are correct, that is a DE bezel in there and it's sitting sideways....have no idea what game that might have gone to or if it was ever in this cab.

Check out the funky spackle blue/gray paint job...will be interesting to see what, if anything, I find under that when I strip it down.

one cool thing I noticed is that it still has the flap on the coin return that has "coin return" embossed on it...pretty cool...my other one is missing that.

I allso noticed the back of the monitor has came off! No good i hope you did'nt blow the monitor.

You can tell in the middle of the cp there is the big yellow hole.. I think that is where the Berzerk Joystick used too be?

So your going too reconvert this? Boy GL Berzerk working parts are really hard to come by!

Thinking of making a multi out of it with horizontal games...19 in 1 or whatever that is.

Might make a 60 in 1 out of my other and do some sort of graphics for the sides.

If I could find everything needed for a Berzerk I would consider restoring this one, but the other is pretty much shot, only be good for a multi or a lot of punishment on a resto.

Popeye in a Bezerk Cabinet

Sorry to say, this Bezerk to Popeye might be a conversoin I did in the mid '80s. If it is...the boards worked when converted. ...My folks lived in Porterville at the time, too! Good luck on the restoration!
