Today's Haul

I don't care much for Star Wars, but that is a great find. I have seen a few cockpits in my time (3 or 4) but none that worked. Have played the upright, though. Pretty neat game. I hope you can get that Amp monitor working, I have heard they are a royal bitch.

Sidebar - A guy I used to work with once worked for a big time operator. He junked about 3 of those cabinets and sold the monitors working as three channel oscilloscopes to the science or electronics dept of some college in Colorado. IIRC the operator was Mountain Coin in Denver. The guy told me that they stored pinball parts by hanging old playfields from the ceiling and then robbing coils and such from them whenever they were needed.

Oh... Its definitely a 25" Amp. Still has the big red.

Strange thing is that when I turn it on:
- Spot killer LED comes on for a sec, then off
- I can hear chatter that seems to change as the game progresses

Nothing on the screen though... I cant see neck glow, and i dont believe there is any HV (tried discharging the tube and it was silence)...

Great find and pick up. Doesn't get any better than that!

Sounds like the same symptoms the V2000 in my AD is having, except that I haven't discharged the tube yet.

Thanks everyone.

I dont like you anymore Barry;)

Who are you kidding Dan? You never did... :D

holy poo... that is an amazing find... you are one lucky guy.

I had fun playing Star Wars at the show in Seattle... maybe this one will show up next year?

That just might happen... ;)

I've fixed one before (for my upright). It was alot of work, but worth it. It was actually the first monitor I ever fixed (good way to get started, huh?). I will say this. Since my first monitor is an Amp, I am not afraid of fixing monitors anymore (except for Hantarex. Those scare the crap out of me. LOL).

Congratulations on your find! That's excellent! I hope you are able to get it fully working again.

Quick update...

The deflection board & PCB both work (tested in my upright). HV board needs to be rebuilt.

Parts are really, really clean inside. Boards look brand new. Heck, the sponges that are in there are still new.

Ordering a new flyback to see if I can get it running this weekend.

I will get pictures posted of the inside.

Oh, and I found a quarter inside, so I am ahead by $0.25.

Sweet score dude.....oh yeah...dont bother buying a lottery ticket ever again as you just used up all your luck allotment for your lifetime ;)

I think you are right. My luck is done. Played poker last night and got absolute crap for cards the entire night...

I can't wait to see pics of this up and running. Last time I sat in/played one of these was at the Game On 2.0 exhibit in 2006 (attached pic).

Me too. If everything lines up, it should be running this weekend...

Well, I thought I was lucky to actually find one in Europe (and at a good price), but sure can't beat this !!!

The power up symptoms you describe are 100% like my first power up :D

All it really needed was a new Cinelabs HVT. But of course I did a lot of the other stuff (but don't believe the entire Amplifone FAQ).

I don't know why people keep saying the Amplifone is a bitch. Like Barry, it was my first monitor that I repaired, and to date, I find it the easiest monitor to work on (just two boards, everything is really easy to access, good quality soldering (compare that all to the WG6100, I hate that one).
The only weak spot was the dead-red and that's been solved.

Anyway, welcome to the club !!!

Awsome Barry! I saw the post from the pinball group and thought that it would probably be trashed, or just one of those 'too good to be true' stories. I'm glad it turned out to be such a fantastic score!
