Today I am taking a break and repairing a Moon Patrol power brick and power supply. The owner tells me that he only paid $1 for this animal. It should have come with it's own fire extinguisher. It is all good, I will make it all better.

I'll take the game. Where should I send the dollar?

I really need to scrounge up a MP cabinet. I have boardsets...

I'd drop a switcher in there...that things looks scary...Better make sure you have right extinguisher too..there are specific ones for electrical fires (Class C):D

It is having sound issues, that I expect are power related. I didn't get much of a chance to look at the power supply today, but it did have some blown caps on it to go with the trashed headers.

That Power supply will look brand new when Dave gets done with it!! You going to install a new repro Harness?

So after you peeled off the electical tape what did you find? I'm guessing two wires joined together by just electrical tape.

Here's one of my current favorite hacked PS boards:

I circled a few things, just in case they didn't scream out at you loudly enough .

I particularly like the way they tied the two caps to ground, just drill a hole and run the bare wire over to the ground trace, right over the -5V circuit (it was dead because they pulled the -5 bridge rectifier out, but still. yikes).

But, they were kind enough to put a molex connector on there for easy removal.;)

Why would you even consider a switcher, when you can have this!! Nice job Dave!! The adjustable +5v pot is awesome!!
