Picked this up from my longtime neighbor. They were having a garage sale and one of their relatives brought this on a trailer. Naturally as soon as I saw a black piece of wood with red T-molding, I walked out of my house and asked how much. My conversation.

Me-"How much?"
Neighbor-"$100"
Me-"Okay, Let me measure it and double check to make sure I have enough room"(I have a 29" wide doorway, it doesn't like to work with games.
Neighbor-"Okay."
So I go and measure the doorway and the game. Everything looked good. But before I dropped $100 I wanted to make sure it would fit so I asked if we could try to make it fit before I bought it. They agreed and me and my neighbor's ex-husband started to move it. A few bumps and scrapes later it was in the room. I paid and they were off to getting ready for their garage sale tomorrow. I turn on the game, monitor looks GREAT!, Marquee is in very bad condition, needs some scotch tape repair. Haha! I tested the guns after hooking everything up. The blue gun works great but the red gun needs a cleaning or something. The hits won't register on the monitor. (Please help if anyone has experience, this is my first shooting game.) I need to figure this out because whenever I put a credit in the red gun is the one you use. I switched the connectors on the PCB and still no luck. It always uses the red gun. So if anyone can help me figure this out, please reply or PM me.
Here are some pics of the game.

If you tried swapping the guns on the PCB and the symptoms follow with the gun, then you probably have a bad light gun. You can usually swap out the internal board of the gun instead of having to buy a whole new gun.
If the symptoms were remaining with player 1 or player 2 after swapping, then you would probably only need to recalibrate the guns.

In your case, it sounds like a gun issue.

Nice pick up!

Thanks. I need to go and open these guns up. What I did was swap wiring on the PCB. No matter what the 1P gun was the right gun. Was confused. Later tonight I will swap out the gun PCBs and see what happens.

Gun lens.....

.....I owned an Area 51 briefly that had a similar issue to yours. It turned out that the lens was missing from the gun that wasn't registering properly.

Those arcade gun lenses are damned expensive at $20-$50 each!

After doing a little research I found out how to get a cheap replacement lens. They are the same ones that are used on the old Nintendo style zapper guns. If you don't have an old one laying around, check your local Goodwill thrift store and get one for probably only $1 :)

I can't remember where I read about it, maybe here:

Thanks. Will look around. My town is a little small that's why I made a post about a $100 game, pretty rare to find a game in my town anyway. I will try Goodwill, doubt they will have one but always good to try.

If you do end up needing a zapper you can just buy one on ebay for less than $10 shipped. Seems cheaper than driving around looking for one to me.

Update: I opened up the red gun and found that the sensor fell broke off the pcb. Must have been what I heard rattling around in there.

Any working $100 game is a great acquisition and a great foundation for what can become a great addition to your collection - great score. I keep holding out for maybe one day, this will happen to me....

Took a year for it to happen to me. Really great since I am in an arcade deadzone.

Anyone else have a optical gun PCB for a pistol? I am going to try and resolder it but I don't think it will work because there is nothing to solder to on the sensor.

Update: Turned on the machine and noticed the picture went bad thinking a cap messed up. Turns out the monitor started smoking, possibly flames. After unplugging the machine and noticing the smoke not clearing out, I called the Fire Department (first time they have been to my house!) they checked for an electrical fire just in case, after that they left. Anyone have any ideas on why it would do this? I was thinking the flyback because I think I heard arcs yesterday while playing, but I didn't really go and check. Guess I should have. On top of that problem today, my 13 year old dog is about to go, sadly. Not the best day...

Open it up and look at the monitor chassis to see if there is any obvious burning. Look for cracks or oozing around the flyback.

Sorry to hear about your dog.

I looked around and the only thing I noticed burned or melted was glue? coming off the neck of the tube. I didn't get a good look at the chassis because it is mounted weird. I will get some pictures of the chassis tomorrow. And thanks, hard to deal with losing a dog, I don't think she is going to make it much longer.
