After I don't know how many years, I have submitted my order to Bob Roberts today (via email) to get the "Big Blue" for my Atari Asteroids. I am hoping it will kill the dreaded hum that has plagued my machine since I got it in 2005..

Stay tuned!

How long have you collected these machines? I can't believe that you haven't found the need to order from Bob before now...

As is the case with many folks here, I'm a point-and-click order guy. I love it. No grief, no hold times, no used car salesman types trying to get me to buy a catalog for an extra buck on the phone while "processing my order". I'm a simple person, and the son of a sales rep, so I get tired of the BS fast. :D

I just passed the 5-year mark on collecting these machines.

I have never dealt with and BS from Bob, but I do have a stack of catalogs from point-and-click orders that I could use as bricks to build a 1200 square foot addition to my house.

But I'm assuming they came free with your order, correct?

And I'm not knocking Bob specifically- I just like my quiet, "add to shopping cart", "go to checkout", "pay", and it's on its way.. :D

I just ordered for the first time from Bob last week. Had my merchandise this week and installed Big Blue on my Centipede already.

Sending the check, etc. seems like a bit of an anachronism in the Internet era, but I couldn't be happier with the way the entire order process went.

I didn't realize how much those catalogs were piling up until i decided to clean house one day. The poor trash guys probably threw their back out when they went to pick up my recycling bin.

On the other hand, sometimes those catalogs are good for reference material, so I try to keep one handy.

To be honest the first catalog always comes in a seperate box from my order and is shipped at the same time. I bet part of my "shipping and handling" charges pay for the initial catalogs. The other catalogs just fill up my mailbox, about one a month from assorted companies. Honestly, I feel much more annoyed by the constant barrage of catalogs than having to send Bob a check. Allied, Mouser, Digikey, and a few others are four to five inches thick.

BTW, I hate companies that I have to call in order to place an order. online shopping carts are fine and I don't have a problem with email ordering either, I just see no need to talk with a live person in this digital age.

I'm hoping for the same experience. Where is Bob located? I'm wondering if there's any hope of getting the big blue on Saturday in the mail. We're having some folks over Sunday who will play the games, and I'd love to have my Asteroids quieted down by then!

I am also troubled by this process, as I get tired of calling a company and getting a person who is speaking with a THICK THICK indian or middle eastern accent, they sound like they're about 40,000 miles away, and they tell me their name is "Mark". Sure it is...

He is in Louisiana. My shipment went out from him on Friday, and I received it on Monday (via Priority Mail.)

Cool if he ships Priority then there's a chance I could have it Saturday (that's if it goes out today).

I was supposed to put the order in yesterday, and got totally sidetracked when some maniac in my area put up a BERZERK for sale. My whole afternoon went squirrely. :D

Man, VG! I can't believe it took you this long to come around! I just started collecting a year ago and I thought you HAD to order from Bob to be allowed to collect arcade games! ;)

FWIW, I had wifey set him up for online bill pay through our bank. Now, the bank sends him a check, not me...

I remember when I first started out here, I saw a post about ordering stuff from him, and when I went to his site, I felt like I was trapped in that maze at the end of The Shining. I couldn't find anything that just said "order here". It made me gunshy. BUT, that was 5 years ago, and he has since streamlined his order process.

I was exactly the same way at first. The payment/purchase method wasn't clear, and I was initially turned off to the process.

I'm glad I tried ordering for the first time, and definitely am happy with how it all works now:

If I email Bob in the morning, I'll ususally get an email back saying that the items shipped today, and the total is $xyz. I have him set up as one of my online payees on my bill-pay page at my Bank's web site. I just key in the $$ amount and click submit. From my standpoint, payment is exactly the same as Paypal (enter and amount and click a button).

Good luck with your order; hope it comes quick.

That is why I use my bank's BillPay feature, so they send the check. :)

I haven't seen one in a while, but there used to be instructions for payees to set themselves up on billpay (put in their bank account, etc) and then Billpay could switch to EFT and not send a paper check.

My last order to Bob Roberts was by EFT instead of by check. The order 3 weeks before via Billpay was by check.

FYI

Interesting... I need to make an order here pretty soon to finish up a couple projects. Will have to keep an eye out for how it goes through. I have seen several checks that I actually wrote show up in my account as an EFT and I don't get the check image when that happens. I think it is like when you call to buy something over the phone with a check. They really just need the numbers and your approval and they use the EFT from your account. Either way, As long as Bob gets his money without me mailing a check. :)

Shoot, I just placed my umpteenth order with him today. I have lost count.
