To whoever just sniped the after burner boards on eBay

Sniping programs are dumb and I hope they are busted. :p

That is all.

Edit: Reading this post now, I see I was being childish by wishing the boards did not work just because I think sniping software is dumb. However, I still feel the same way so I guess I've only proven that I have an After Burner with busted boards and that I'm childish. :)

Well shit... I could have told you that. It'd be like you calling me an asshole... :dunno:

Pffft... I *only* snipe. And I do it manually.

It's the only way to go and the only way to help control costs of things.

I'm not a big fan of sniping programs, because most of them cause your eBay bid to skyrocket to you max proxy bid right at the very end of the auction. To snag an item for a great deal, you gotta be there live, bidding in the last few seconds.

I usually tag the item with 3 seconds left - if it's meant to be, it's meant to be.

Honestly, I don't bid on much any more - I mostly use 'buy it now' prices when I can. I can't stand dicking around trying to save $10. I'd rather just get it over with and move along.

I only snipe when bidding on eBay. It's the best way to get something cheaper. It's the same thing as bidding manually with 3 seconds left except I don't have to be sitting in front of a computer waiting for the countdown.

In the past i had played a little with the sniping software, but now just wait till the last few mins of the auction, throw in what i can afford max, and if i get it great, if not wasn't meant to be!
I do feel your pain though, lost out on some good deals by pennies. Tis life i guess.

Gixen.com

Works for me every time. Sniping is the only way to get
things affordable. If Ebay was a true auction then the
auction wouldn't end until the actual bidding stopped,
so sniping will always be a part of the experience.

I just wish someone would actually use a sniping program for one of my auctions.

Must be nice being on the other side of those sales :(

You cant snipe on gun broker. If someone places a bid at the last second, it reloads and puts on another 15 minutes or something like that. Problem is everyone has a starting price above what I would pay.

Me personally i don't care if people snipe.
If i really want something or need it, i bid what i'm willing to pay and hope it's enough, if someone snipes it, obviously they want it more than i do.
I notice alot of people here need things, but want them cheap, if i "need" an item that is in demand, i do what it takes to get it.

Personally I make note of when the auction is supposed to end, log in with about 5 minutes left and watch it. If it's something I want and the price is low enough, I put in my max bid with about 10 seconds left. If someone wants it more, they can have it. As long as they bid with 9 seconds left or less.

Remember Kids you don't WIN items on EBay, you BUY them. ;)

You just have to put in the most your willing to pay for that particular item and leave the rest up to the Arcade Auction Gods. If you don't get to buy it thswap other bidder was willing to pay more than you.

Even when I manually snipe, I put in the max I will pay in the last 5 seconds. Sometimes I'm the lucky buyer sometimes not. I've put in $200 over the current bid price in the last 5 seconds and all it takes is $2 for me to be the highest bidder. Of course the seller and the last highest bidder have no idea there was $198 left to go! :D

eBay tip: set you iPhone timer to go off 5 minutes before the auction ends.

That's exactly how it's done.
Even if they get another couple seconds to place another bid, it will not be nearly enough money.

If you really need something you have to go all out to get it.

I use bidnip.com. Works great. lots of successful snipes. I'm not waiting up til 3 am for an auction to end. So I input my max bid and it places it for me seconds before the auction ends. No muss no fuss. I've saved 100's of $$$ using it because I was prepared to spend lots more on an item but it only bid up until the last bidders maximum. I win. :)

I snipe, but like a lot of others I do it manually with maybe 5-10s left on the clock. Seems like it is the only way to get sane prices on stuff, if you try to bid legit it typically just turns into a bidding war and the winner ends up being the real loser (or a non-payer). :(

Besides sniping or not if you lose it's because someone was willing to pay more than you were. Just because it would only be $5 to outbid doesn't mean you can't put in a $100 max and wander off.

What you guys need to understand (and some of you do) is that if you snipe, either manually or with an automated program, you will win more auctions cheaper than putting in your max bid early.

Why does it work? Because people don't place their max bid and in many cases, will bid above their max if they aren't the top bidder.

Here is an example:

I am willing to pay $100 for an item.
I place a $100 bid with 2 days left in the auction.
John Doe bids $50 and is out bid.
John Doe immediately bids $75 dollars and is outbid.
John Doe immediately bids $99 dollars and is outbid and gives up.
I win the auction for $100.

Now a snipe example:

I am willing to pay $100 for an item.
I set a snipe of $100 to be placed 3 seconds before the auction ends.
John Doe bids $50 and is the top bidder.
John Doe leaves happy as the high bidder and forgets to check back on the auction until it is over.
My snipe of $100 goes in at the last seconds.
I win the auction for $51.

Yes, in both cases, I won the item and got it for a price I was willing to pay. But isn't is nicer getting it for less than I would have paid?

Snipeing works and if you aren't doing it, you're leaving money on the table and possibly missing out on auctions you could have won.
