With most people being effected in this hobby, do you find yourself willing to trade parts/cabinets/working games more than wanting to sell?

Are you wanting to trade to a pin? Trade for a different game? Sell for cash?

It's been interesting on how the market has changed over the last few years and seeing more and more "rare" parts come up.

Has this been happening in your area?

Yup, I see this happening more often.

Any machine I get from here on out either has to be a "must have" for me because I love the game, or a high-end machine that's worth a lot for potential trade fodder. All trading can be fun, but I wanna make sure any KLOVer or hobbyist I trade with feels like they got something special out of the deal.

The past couple years have seen many collections/parts and members disappear and I'm seriously a solid offer away from selling everything and moving on. The only thing I'm struggling with is what to do with ones in my garage that lay in pieces and need full restos. No trades and whatever it takes to see it all go, parts or whole. I've reached the age where this hobby is near death for me, one foot's in and the other is dangling.

I'm usually willing to do either, but I think I've only traded a game once out of the last 6-7 transactions. I think it's more that the specific buyers didn't have anything I was interested in or vice versa.

I try to trade now because if I sell one for the low prices these go for around here, it is just gone. $150 or $200 is going to get spent in the general budget too quickly. Unfortunately, I also buy at these prices, so I am creating a real space issue. There aren't many that I really want to get rid of anymore.

I have 2400 dead g07's chassis I can offer as trade. :)

Don't you have some favorite games to play in your collection?

No to both. I'm gonna get started on the black widow resto which should carry me into the fall, if i still aint feelin it, it'll all be gone by this time next year.

Hey Chris, I know what you mean. I've been slowly getting away from the hobby too. Just too many memories in these games though...

I took a break from restoring for about a year, it's helped. Of course, I moved in that time and it was a difficult decision in taking the stuff with me.

I am glad that I did though....

Just my Two Cents...

For me, it's more about the hunt. I cut my collection by over half! Not too many games I'm looking for now anyways.
It gets better man!

Sell only. I need less games, not the same amount or more.

Unless a really nice Food Fight came along. :D

Well hey,
If you aren't feeling it by fall and you do get that big offer for all your working games and the BW still isn't working, let me know. I'd probably pay to ship it my way if your going to throw it to the curb. If the hobby isn't doing it for you, do something else. But I'd bet that its more a result of whats going on in your own life, than not being interested in the games.

Ex. Gamer has his first kid. He's up all hours, working a full time job, and hasn't got time or concentration for shit. Fast forward 4 years later and his kid is starting to play games and he can enjoy his games again.

Point is, if you don't enjoy the hunt, the repairing, or the playing anymore, you've probably outgrown them. But if you enjoy any of that stuff, you're probably not finished yet.

And another thing to remember is if you have the spare space in your home, a nice minicade in the basement is one of those elitist home improvement ideas that can add equity and sell a house much like a pool in the back yard, or a nice home theater. If you have the extra space, and your not interested anymore, just leave it and sell it with the house if you ever decide to. Just my 2 bits.

No to both. I'm gonna get started on the black widow resto which should carry me into the fall, if i still aint feelin it, it'll all be gone by this time next year.

The baby, working full time second shift, trying to get a art career started....

Thats me. Tack on the fact we feel so distant from anyone that no one plays them but myself and occasionally my wife. They sit untouched, projects in the basement.

Getting two pins recently helped me get down there to play a bit.

I still need my final 6-7 game titles to make me happy, then the hunt will be over.

Say it aint so, Chris! If it is though i better start saving now ;) Black Widow will bring you back to the fold... If not certainly either Berzerk or Pole Position would do it!

I guess you just can't keep trading forever along with buying; eventually you just run out of space so selling has to play a part. In the last 3 weeks or so, I have had to sell off two vids and an old EM pin just to fit in new stuff. I took a beating on the prices, but space is worth a lot sometimes.

I sold them all but 2 of them.

I didn't need the money just needed a break from obsessing over them....:D

I have not had any issues selling pinball machines but I'm finding it very hard to sell vids and it seems even harder to find trades for them in my area. In the past 4 months I have had three games up for sale and I have finally sold two of them. One I had to drive all the way up to Allentown, PA when I went to the show and the other I had listed, pulled off the market and then put it back up before it finally sold.

Maybe things will change. The only positives are the last two games I picked up I purchased cheap but they were non-working when I got them.
