Hey guys.

I recently came across a Gorf cab and was wondering what you guys think its worth.

THE GOOD:
-
-original side art /good condition
-original control deck control deck/Rough condition but joystick is good.

THE BAD:
-
-No PCB
-Monitor appears to have a large ammount of rust on the chasis
-rear door and top rear edge have dryrot from past water damage.
-no noise or signs of life when plugged in
-no Marquee's

Other than that, the body is solid. LoL

Is it worth even lookin at?

Gorf working is a $300-$500 game. You need game pcb ($125-$175). A control panel plate ($75). marquee ($20-$30). I would make sure the monitor glass is in good shape and lower control panel plexi is not damaged.

Some other key elements:
wiring. Is it intact?
is the audio pcb there?
is the video pcb there?
power supply is the power supply there?

if the 1st 3 are missing or damaged, you should probably pass on it. Power supply you can just use an arcadeshop one, so not a big deal.

If your saying you have no hope to find a gorf in your area, then go for it. But cab damage and missing rear door is a big problem (If its the upper door).

Honestly, it sounds like you have a lot misisng. Speaking as someone who has a GORF as well... I'd say $50. If I was really desperate to pick up a GORF project I may go up to $100.

Keep in mind I got mine working for about $166 (was part of a bulk buy including Tempest and a Dedicated Bosconian). Honestly, if GORF was a must have for me I'd rather buy Phett's assuming it is still for sale and save myself some trouble.

Thanks guys, i sort of knew the answer anyway. The wires have all been hacked up inside, looks like a ripped up Jamma conversion.

Gorf isn't even a game that I grew up playing, so its not a must have for me at all,I just hate to see a dedicated cab get parted out and then destroyed which will likely be it's fate.

The plexi appeared to be in good shape...monitor lit up but it's got a vertical collapse going on.

I could probably get it for $50 but, no point I suppose.

50 bones falls into my "practically free" category. I'd take it for $50 and restore it. Hell if it's got another board in it you can sell that and get your money back. Then you've got the cabinet to do with as you please.

Gorf is always worth saving. It has a cult following even if it's small. Just post it FS on the star trek forums and you'll catch a bid because of it's unofficial status of being based on the film. It was one of the first games to use voice in it and has a beautifully designed cabinet. A new board, control panel and marquee are all easy fixes to make if you're willing to put in the investment. If you had to strip paint or do something labor intensive then maybe you take a pass, but if all you have to do is source cheap parts and plug them in, it's not such a time consuming process. I bet if you recap the monitor, shine it up and piece it together, you'll make more on the game this year than you will on the S&P 500 index.

Yeah.. if you have to buy a working board set, repro panel, and find a wiring harness, it could get pricey, and you end up spending what you would to buy a nice restored one - not a bargain. However, if you enjoy the work, it might be worth it for $50, if you have space to sit on it for a while and not be in a rush to find parts. I have a fair-good glass bezel with artwork that has some lifting/bubbling, if you're interested.

I like your style.

I like Gorf and would be happy to own one again but this one sounds like it needs a lot of work. I would agree with the aforementioned $50 for a price.

gorf

gorf is in my game room, will always be in the game room. i got mine from mike malice95 and will always thank him for this machine. its is nice if you want to save this game, but if not be patient and you can get a really nice one here on klov for 500-650 range with all the bells and whistles! (all lights working and cab art)
good luck!

Gorf is awesome.. I have tons of parts if you decide to save it.

Thanks guys,

I may end up grabbing it just because it deserves not to die. I know I would lose money in the end but it'd be fun to rebuild it.

Dont want much for the parts I have:) If they are going to save a Gorf.. I think I have complete harness, upper and lower marquees.. control panel harness ect...

Gorf is my wifes favorite game, and I like it alot too..

I may need to hit you up. I broke mine trying to get my Space Zap up and working (which it is lol). :(

I have a Gorf as well..but I need to rebuild the base. It's got some water damage..but at least its working.

Good luck with the project. Post some pics when you can.

I would work on finding the audio and video pcbs first. If I remember correctly, the video pcb can have problems with missing colors.

LMK if it has a working joystick or not. I may be able to track down one if you need one.

I would pass on that one and look for a more complete one. They made a ton of them so they are not too hard to find. I bought four at one time and got three nice working machines out them. The fourth one had major cabinet issues so it donated parts to save the other three.
For the cost of just aquiring the parts and getting that up and running you should be able to find a decent working machine for about the same money.
