Hey everyone,
I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice. I recently picked up two pins that I plan on keeping for a long time. I buy and sell games all the time but these two I will keep. They are Family guy, HUO and an Indiana Jones. The games have no playfield wear, except the family guy by the through. THey are both being torn down for a complete shop job now, and since I am going through that I am wondering, clear them or not. Both are getting full led kits, rubber kits, balls, idj new flipper rebuilds, idj inside side decals and back of playfield lost plastic.

I am wondering if I should clearcoat these or not. I have heard that they may devalue the games, but that is not too much of a concern because I am keeping them. My main reason is so that I can be lazy and not clean them as often. Also I love the way a playfield looks almost wet with a good coat.

Also on a side note, my IDJ has great art on it except for the right side of the back box is faded. I purchased replacements for both sides and am wondering if this is a good idea after all. Is it better if the thing is all original?

Thanks for any comments or suggestions. Trying to figure this all out.

The Family Guy came clear coated from the factory, Indiana Jones did also (Williams called it Diamond Plate, but it was basically automotive clear coat) if I remember correctly, so you can most likely just polish them both out. If not go ahead and clear them. I never heard of it devaluing a pin, and most collectors view it as a plus as long as it is done right.

I've heard that the factory clear coat was very very thin?

Well, because of the special circumstances, I can knock a hundred bucks off that TrueCoat

I talked to allen at treasure cove and he seems to think that clear coating would not be worth it due to the games only being used in home from now on. As for the family guy if they put a clear coat on them, they do a crappy job. Very thin as mentioned before. I have seen 4 family guys with wear and one with a chip. Absolute bs, if you consider what stern knows about pinballs and what they charge for them. Not very difficult to ensure that the playfields are lasting a while on them.
