To Arms, KLOVers!! To Arms!! Forum Wars...

Ok. I met Mark at CAX '10, and had an extremely awkward conversation with him.

He was videotaping a high score run for someone. I had just gotten my high score on Ikari Warriors verified and I noticed they weren't doing a lot of the things I thought needed to be done, so I asked him about it. He looked at me funny and asked in an accusing manner why he would need to do some of the things I mentioned. After several awkward exchanges he informs me that the recording wasn't for TG but rather for his own website. I suppose that was my own fault for assuming it was for TG, but still.

I then told him about my score and he said he hadn't ever heard of a game called "Ikari Warriors". Now, I know that my score is a relatively small accomplishment, and I don't expect anyone to care, but for a guy who has lived in the arcades since the 70s I would have thought he'd at least heard of the game. It came out a little later ('86) but is still very well known.

"Is it a fight game?" He asks.

"No. Its a shooting/war game. Like commando."

"See. That's what I call a fighting game. I don't play those types of games."

-confused look from me

All in all, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm about as socially awkward as anyone, so I can't be critical. However, I couldn't shake the feeling he was screwing with me.

Wow, just wow, the guy goes all out, so much hate for an old videogame ??
I'm not into donkey kong but played it in the arcades as a kid and loved it, it's a real challenge.
Ok he is entitled to his opinion but his opinion is completely rubish if you ask me.

I have a DK cab I'm slowly working on, I should make a custom control panel for Mark with the stick on the right and the jump button on the left.
Then maybe he can finally experience the great game he has been missing out on, and the reason that anyone other than his mom knows his name......:p

I'll go out on a limb and agree that Ikari Warriors is classic. Close to the edge, but classic to me.

The twist sticks make it classic with a capital C , just like Xybots.

Correction: Twist sticks make it classy with a capital C.

You'd also have to remove Pauline because he hates the fact that she has to be saved and there's a story and most of the sounds and Donkey Kong. So I guess it'd just be a silent game of Mario running and jumping up girders forever.

But do you actually know what I'm saying?? as those sticks were quite an inovation at the time and the game was awesome.
Yes, I dig Ikari and Time Soldiers is one of my all time favs. Played it as a kid and lost my balls when I realized you could twist the stick to make the character rotate.

Socially awkward people don't make hour-long 'leet videos of themselves and post them on youtube. He has no excuse.
