Has anyone here ever built an adapter of sorts to read AND burn the TMS2716's in their programmer ?
Say for a programmer that can normally do regular 2716's but not the TMS2716's.
I just started poking around looking at it and figured I'd ask.

Yeah, I was perusing through datasheets and realized it may be a bit tricky. Just curious if someone here had given it a try. I was thinking of building a socket with the rearranged pins and then also using an external power supply for the +5V, -5V, and +12V. (switchable for both read and write operations)

I know we can just restrap the board for standard 2716's.... but I thought what the heck, let's just look into it anyways. (Space Invaders Deluxe)

I see a similar thread was just started on SI rom topic as well, so I'll read up on those options as well.

If that was my thread, just restrap the board for standard 2716's (2732's will work as well)... it's so much easier in the end.

Didn't see a thread by you....this is the one I was browsing through on a regular SI's roms.

We may end up just restrapping and be done with it.
Seems you need to do that in order to use the "test rom" anyways for checking ram and such.
(at least I think that test rom will work on a Deluxe also)

This is the site info I was looking at about doing the restrap -

Looks easy enough.

Well if anyone wants any TMS-2716 programmed,
I've got a bunch of NOS eproms,

[ ..got them by mistake when the seller didn't know the difference
and sold them to me as "normal" 2716, not TMS-2716.
... I was none too pleased with that... ]

and I've got programmer that will program them.
(good old Data I/O 29B ! ;-)

Cheers,
Steph

+1... have TMS2716 chips in stock and can program them with my trusty Data I/O Series 22 programmer.
