TMNT Turtles In Time NOS side art and CPO scanning project

Recently, I caught a listing on eBay for the TMNT Turtles In Time NOS side art and CPO. I was able to get everything for a good price.

Today it all arrived in the mail, as described: in great condition. I attached a single pic of the goods below fresh out of the box/packing (don't mind the packing peanut remnants.)

Tomorrow I'm headed to pick up a few pieces of plexiglass so I can flatten out the individual pieces.

From there, I have a local spot that can do hi res wide format scanning. I'm familiar with thee basics of scanning artwork. Everything will be scanned at 600 dpi. Any last minute tips I should know as I move forward?

And lastly, I'd like to get a gauge on how many people are interested in the results of this project - who is looking for a repro set of this artwork?

I will let guys like Rick guide you on that, but if you do not mind me asking, what did you pay?

$800, why is that a lot?

That is a very subjective question, but I will answer it the way I think is best. $800 is a substantial amount of money for side art, any side art, even NOS. But honestly, it is up to you if that was a lot or not. A fully restored Turtles in Time is a sight to behold, for sure. I can tell you that you will almost certainly never be able to get out of it what are putting in it, but that can be said of most restoration projects. However, what you are doing for the restoration community by having this art scanned so the rest of us can use it is truly priceless. It is my hope that we, as a community, scan all NOS art as it is purchased so we can continue to build our archives, and there are many guys out there doing that. You are contributing to this process, and we thank you for it. Good luck on your machine restoration and thanks again.

Kryosfear,

I gotta be honest, that was a sincerely nice and truly diplomatic response to someone spending almost a grand on side art. I commend you for not smacking me over the head with my laptop.

I was actually kidding though - The original owner was asking $229, free shipping. I offered $150 out the door and they took it. Though, I have seen people pay $300 for the same set before.

I think by the time I'm done with flattening and scanning, I'll be somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 in. I think enough people will be interested that I'll be able to recoup in some form. All in all though, preservation is the biggest goal.

No worries. With "New Posters" you never know but your numbers ($150-$300) look much better now. Thanks again.

$800! I was about to drive to Detroit and smack you myself! :) Anyways that is awesome you got the sideart for that. I might be interested in buying the digital version of the art from you when done as it will help myself and many others. If not I understand. Putting together the scans for the regular TMNT was a pain in the ass but well worth it. I got a new scanner now that I think next time will make it much easier. You can check it out at the link below.

Pandigital Wand Scanner

I use to scan everything at 400 but I have seen to many people complain about that so 600 or above for sure will make everyone happy. Also I got photography equipment, set up lights and everything, took professional pictures of the art and combined that with the scans, worked great.

I know I am the few that actually like the Turtles In Time Art. But I am glad it's finally being preserved before all the clean NOS stuff has been lost. Thank you it's greatly appreciated.

I cannot wait to get to enjoy the results of this, thank you so much for getting this done. Cannot wait.

Its no longer available on their website which is a shame, tried to buy the other day. Hopefully it will be available again as I really want to start scanning my marquees to get ready for hyperspin 2.0

That scanner is a different model. I have only been able to find the one I bought from QVC shopping network, I think its exclusive to them. The model number is S8X1102RD Pandigital Wand Scanner.

Gotcha. QVC has a similar model available. Can I bother you to check out the specs in the link below and see how they differ from the model you picked up?

Looks to me it has the stitch software which is perfect, mine has it also. The only difference I can see is this one goes up to 600dpi and mine does 1200.. but mine will only do 600dpi max when scanning for stitching. So to me this wand scanner should work just as good.

For those interested, everything TMNT Turtles In Time has been scanned @ 900dpi -

Complete side art
Control Panel Overlay
CPO/Cab decals

There is stitching/light clean up work to be done, however I worked it out with Rick for the sets to be released through his shop. When everything is ready for release, I'm sure Rick will say the word.

You rock Johnny! Once I get the scans I will start piecing them together immediately and make the the prints available ASAP. Now I need to get another Konami cab just to put this on.. lol
