I have a TMNT 4 player pcb that has some sound issues. I have all sounds except character voices and theme song. In the pic, the yellow circled resistor array had physical damage to it. I replaced it and the character voices work! But still no theme song. And yes, attract mode is on - I have sound on the demo play.

I began searching through the forums and came across the picture that is attached. My pcb is missing the blue box components that are circled in red (nevermind the circled capacitor). Other threads have called them "crystals" and they have something to do with the sound. Any ideas where I can find replacements? I don't even know what they're called so searching has been difficult.

Thanks for your time

If I recall correctly those are both 640K Ceramic Resonators. I had this on an old project saved at Mouser.com. To make sure I am not crossing things up I would ask someone else with a board to verify I am recalling correctly.

I had one broken from a board I have. I want to say the background music was missing as well but, well, that was longer than like 5 minutes ago. :)

Thanks for the reply! Can anyone confirm this?

I realized I posted this in the wrong section...damn noobs :) Moderators feel free to move this to the appropriate section.

My TMNT cab is kind of "stuck" in my basement, don't ask why...long story, but I'll go see if I can get at my board via pulling the CP off, no room to pull the backdoor.

Edit: Nope, can't get in there enough to get the board out...feet are screwed in good with the board far back in there. I tried reading the parts you referred too, I can't make out the numbers and I too have no idea what they are without a closer look. Sorry.

Yes that does help. I am after the 2 little ones: csb 640p. I will get these ordered from mouser and install them. I will report back hopefully within the week.

Thanks again for the help, I appreciate it!

Great, I'll add those to my "why the hell is my sound screwing up on my TMNT board" parts list... so far, it looks like I'm replacing half the board. lol

Thank you for the confirmation of the 640 khz resonators. I have placed the order and its already been shipped. I will update after the repairs.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...Turtles in a half-shell, turtle power!!!! The sound is 100% after replacing the ceramic resonators at X1 and X2 on the board. They are 640 kHz resonators made by Murata part #CSBLA640KJ58-B0. Availabe through Mouser (see link in previous posts) and Digikey.

These resonators solved sound problems of missing Theme song and intermittent *popping* when a character spoke. I left the game on for an hour and the sound stayed strong.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Excellent to hear!

I now have another "cheap" thing to replace on my board that might be the problem. :D

Thanks for the update!!

I just bought a tmnt board on ebay, and it appears to have the same problem. This thread really helped! After giving it a close looksee, I noticed one of those little blue boxes was broken off the board and missing. The part number listed above, that is for one of these parts correct?

Yes, that is the part number for the ceramic resonators aka "little blue boxes". The link in post #12 will take you directly to Mousers website and to the part you need. If you do order these from mouser, you might want to order something else (if needed) because I have never been charged less than $10 shipping.

Jay, I JUST ordered some a couple of days ago from Mouser, they should be here shortly. I noticed I ordered too few though... I only added 1 to my cart instead of my standard 5. If you order them, can you order me 4 more and I'll pay for them (of course).

That's awesome. Thanks for making this thread. I'm sure I'm gonna have to pull my board out soon when the sound starts going out again LOL. mine has been going strong for a while though. Good to know about those ceramic resonators. I was lucky and got away with just cleaning my sound rom, and re-soldering a broken leg from one of my capacitors.
