What is the TMNT black paint code?

I want to repaint my cab in a semi-gloss black (that is what it is) but I never seem to get "black" when I get paint, just something close.

Thanks!

Well, if going to SW, you'd want to buy oil based All Surface Enamel. If you're using an off the shelf color, then your Lowes or Home Depot likely has quart cans of black semi-gloss.

I got RustOleum Oil-based black. It talks about being used on metal and such.

It was the only Oil based one I found.

Do I need to strip any/all existing paint from the cab to use this? (I know for my found you can't use oil over latex.) I'm pretty sure my cab was rattle canned by something at some point and it is a semi-gloss.

The art on the sides is coming off, but I guess I am asking about the CP box and the front by the coin doors and the top, etc.

Previous owner must have broke the control panel mount. Any suggestions on the best way to fix this?

Right now, the 2x4 has screws out either side. Since I want to replace the art work, they have to be replaced (pan head screws instead of flat tops). So, if I have to pull it all out, may as well do it right?

Also, does anyone have a picture of the back top of the cab? Mine has a 2x4 for holding on to to till it. Someone must have liked 2x4s.

Edit: also, for taking off the old t-molding, would heating it up with a hair dry help remove it and leave the pocket smaller?

Sides stripped! :)

I only need to strip the sides, right? (I can just paint over the rest of the black.)

Also, one side's sticker left a lot of sticker glue. Even Acetone doesn't seem to want to remove it. Any suggestions on removing the sticker glue? Or lots of Acetone and scraping? (I felt like I was spreading it out thinly more so than removing it.)

Edit: with TMNT particle board, we pour a puddle of Acetone and with a plastic scraper, scraped the goof off. Note: wipe/pick up the goo pile before the puddle evaporates. Worked very well. Even with a lot of Acetone, you have to move fast. The goo gets really gooy again fast when the Acetone is evaporating. And wear gloves. Once gooy, replace with new gloves, or your hands get more goo back on than off.

Reinforced the front with an extra brace. (When we were picking it up to turn it over I could hear it creaking if I held on the front.)

Bondo on the sides, bolt holes and the gap a bill collector was cut in for.

Bondo for a broken corner too. (Needs T slot cut still.)

Lastly, primed and painted the bottom while still on it side. (Still bondo-ing the one corner.)

I'll have to get a picture of the other side when I flip it tomorrow.

Finished bondo and sanding.

Moved to priming.

In the Rust-Oleum oil paint section I found metal primer and Rust-Oleum® Universal Bonding Primer. I figured the Universal stuff was the right way to go?

Well, it wouldn't spray well. It also said you couldn't thin it. And it is water based. Edit: it isn't water based. It is oil. It says soap & water clean up making us think it was at the time.

I ended up rolling it on. :(

I'll get to sand it some more once dry before the black paint.

So, as a warning: DO NOT GET the Rust-Oleum Universal Bonding Primer!

Also, if you plan to use the Universal Bonding Primer, and to roll it, to do the inside and out, 1 quart won't be enough.

I usually use Kills primer on my restores. I rattle spray the kick panel and roll the sides. I usually use 3 coats with sanding with 220-400 grit in between coats and it comes out silky smooth. Just keep sanding and it will come out good. Great progress so far.

Forgot to post on the 29th: Black Coat 1

Yesterday, the 30th, I broke my regulator.

My local auto paint supply store, closed that location. :(

By the time I chased around to get replacement parts, it was too hot to paint. My compressor is undersized and I have to use a box fan to cool it. It runs basically the whole time I am painting. (And I have to pause a little bit every now and again.)

Today, Coat 2 complete! :)

The only mistake I made, I painted the inside, before I put in new blocking to secure the control panel sides too (someone broke these out at some point). Opps. :( I'll have to use extra glue and screws and oversize it, as it will be more or less glued to the paint.

I'm also getting better with the spray gun. I'm much happier with how painting today went.

Edit: incase any did or didn't noticed, I saved the Konami cab sticker on the back (I didn't paint over it). It is half ripped off. :( But, better than nothing.

Looking pretty damn good. Do you already have side art for this?

I do. It is off of ebay from about 5+ years ago. It is on Orajet vinyl. Is something significantly better out now?

I'm now waiting 1-2 weeks for the paint to fully cure and harden. So, if someone else has something much better that I can get now, I'm all ears. This was a lot of work.

Szabo's arcade has legit stuff. His control panel overlays are beyond awesome.

I have an original NOS CPO and Lexan overlay for it.

I also have an original Marquee. Good shape. Could be NOS.

How is his side art? Worth rebuying over what I have? (Orajet printed stuff)

I used latex and haven't had an issue. Make sure to watch some of his YouTube videos on how to apply it. It really helped me.
