Any common issues that will leave Tmnt with no sound? Went from ok to staticy to nothing. Blown amp maybe?

This is my spare board that I may list for sale once the sound works.

Those Konami boards have custom sound cpu's that can have a tendency to fail. What do the self checks say on the ROMs?

Also a note, those surface mounted cpu chips can easily have the prongs bent and cause shorts with data lines. Seen this on a few of mine and that of course is from OPs and people stacking them to store them.

I've had a couple TMNT's that the sound went out as well. Never got them fixed... they don't have the same type of custom chip in the sound that the other Konami boards do. A lot of TMNT's will have missing or scratchy sounds too, I never messed with the ones that went bad much, I did try to recap them and it didn't fix the problem so it's something related to the IC's, IMHO.

Have 2 turtles boards. BOTH had audio issues. One of them had choppy audio in some spots. The ceramic Oscillators (little blue square boxes two of them) on your PCB have been known to go. This fixed ONE of my turtles boards audio problems completely!! You can get them for .61 cents at digikey (you will need 2 of them) It is a good and cheap place to start

You say you checked your ROMS. Have you checked your mask roms?? These are a completely separate entity from the regular roms and they drive the audio. use the TMNT user manual. flip the necessary dip switches on your PCB then plug it in. It will give your monitor a rainbow colored light show for about 1 minute while it tests your mask roms. Once complete, the screen will tell you if your mask roms are ok. The mask rom chips are surface mounted but you can replace them with a steady hand.

Hope this helps? There have been hundreds of bad audio posts for Konami games especially TMNT. Notorious bug with that one but.....there is hope!!
