Just got a new 22/44 edge connector in an attempt to repair my Ms. Pac Man. I'm still a novice at a lot of this electrical stuff.

Game has hum bar - I've had the edge connector on the board repaired and I've replaced the fuses/fuse block and the problems persist.. so I think it's gotta be the edge-connector.

...anyway, does anyone have any tips on how to wire this up?

Do I cut the wires on the old one one-at-a-time and connect them to the new one with solder/heat shrink tubing?

Is is necessary to remove the entire wiring harness to work on this?

Is there some super quick shortcut method that I'm overlooking?

Just looking for any tips before I dive in and get started. Tried searching the site and didn't see anything right off hand that would help.

Yes, one wire at a time

Start with the hidden side, then the near side. No need to remove the harness

Good luck!

I can't imagine soldering all those fine points while crammed in the back of the dark cabinet.

What's the method for connecting the wires to the edge-connector? There's a tiny hole on these pins. Do I loop a bit of wire through then solder that?

Get a set of tiny tools (Small side cutters, long nose pliers etc)

  • Cut 1 wire off old harness
  • Strip off 1/2" from wire
  • Twist and solder that 1/2"
  • Fit heat shrink, (slide away from end or it will shrink
  • Bend soldered end more than 90 degrees (like a hook)
  • fit through hole
  • solder
  • trim off excess
  • After doing a few, heat shrink 5 or 6 at a time

I raised my cab up, to save my back
