OK, the subject should read "TIP 110 suitable replacements?" not TIP 100

I'm working on a Gorf and two of the lights on the "rank" display board are out. It looks as though the TIP 110s are toast for the two lights. Will any of the following NPNs work properly in it's place or do I need the 110?

TIP 102, TIP 120 or TIP 122

Also, does this work like a cap where voltage can be higher, but not lower than the original? (ie: the 110 is 60v, the 111 is 80v and the 112 is 100v) Is there a rule of thumb on these?

Thanks,

Tom

I'm pretty sure most any NPN Darlington that'll handle a couple of amps will work fine, including all of the ones you listed. In this case, the xistor is just being used as a switch, it's either off or hard-on... never operated in the linear region.

Yes, like with caps, generally subbing in a part which is identical in all specs but with higher voltage ratings is fine.

Any of those three transistors will sub for yours. In fact out of those three, the TIP102 has the highest ratings. Yes a high voltage rated transistor can sub for a lower one.

general rule is keep as close as possible, and ok to increase voltage & amperage rating.

oh, and try to keep same package/pinout
